Full Moon

Pentax K20D w/Sigma 400mm APO (effective 600mm with 1.5x crop factor), ISO 100, 1/8 sec @ f/16 for each exposure with ND8 filter. The filter was made of polycarbonate, so the image ended up blurry. That should teach me always to buy optical quality glass Cokin P-series filters! Anyway, I set up my tripod to acquire a "time-lapse" sequence and overlaid the images (screen) in Photoshop. Oh, it also turns out that August 6th is the full moon, but it was pretty close on the evening of the 5th

Making French Vanilla Ice Cream

My 8th ice cream was a "hippie organic" French vanilla. Ingredients were 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 1 cup goat milk, 1/2 cup organic sugar, 2 eggs, some genuine vanilla bean seeds, and 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Making Peanut Butter Ice Cream

Here's what you need: 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp smooth peanut butter, 1/2 cup white sugar, 3/4 cup whole milk, 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 cup coarsely chopped peanut butter cups. Makes about 1 quart.

Making Mango Sorbet

Rather than make mango gelato, I made the significantly easier mango sorbet. All you need are 2 mangos, 1/2 cup simple syrup, 2 tablespoons lemon juice.

Wine & Cheese Night (Set 1)

Another party at my house. In the invitation, I had implied that people should dress up since we were doing a sophisticated "Wine & Cheese" night. Consequently, I tried in this photo set to emulate high fashion photographs and experimented with hyper-realistic colors, slight overexposure (esp. for skin tones) but with a little bit of soft glow thrown in, too.

Digital Cross-Processing

So, back at the beginning of March, we went out to Moondoggies to celebrate Ilaria's and Stefanias birthdays (one of many celebrations that month apparently). In this gallery, I used Photoshop to simulate cross processing film-developing wherein reversal film is developed using chemicals for slide film or vice-versa. Typical effects include unnatural colors or casts and high contrast (often with blown out highlights).

Decided to have some more fun tonight with Photoshop -- this time around, giving my pictures that vignetted, oversatured, high-contrast look typically associated with lomographic photography. San Diego in Miniature

Tecolote Giant Ranunculus are grown at The Flowers Fields in Carlsbad. This afternoon I used my Pentax K20D with 15/3.5, 50/2.8 macro, and 24-90/3.5-4.5 zoom lenses to shoot some.

Fun With Baking: Presidents' Day Weekend Edition

Seven layer bars are ridiculously easy to make. I decided to make a variation that was INSANE! I wanted something that started off bitter & dark at the bottom, then became lighter and oh so sweeter at the top. Ingredients: Graham cracker crumbs - 1.5 cups; Melted butter - 1 stick; Condensed milk - 16 oz can; Crushed coffee beans - 1/2 cup (whole bean); Dark chocolate chips - 12 oz; Peanut butter chips - 12 oz; Butterscotch chips - 6 oz; White chocolate chips - 12 oz; Chopped macademia nuts - 1 cup; Coconut flakes - 2 cups
