At first, it was a single speed. Then it was an Alfine hub with this travel agent. This is the location I eventually arrived at after locating the travel agent all over the place. It was pretty secure and had no issues other than the obvious visual distraction.
Shimano indexed 8 speed bar end shifter, good in and of itself, and compatible with the Alfine hub in combination with the above travel agent. Shifting worked, but I wanted something more precise.
I must have had good timing with my Alfine conversion because within a few weeks Jtek Engineering made this little gem - a bar end shifter designed to work with Nexus and Alfine Hubs.
Since installing the Jtek shifter, the hub is a nice clean install no longer requiring the travel agent
