"One Man Changed China, Dr Sun Yat Sen" - A majestic 3.5-metre tall stone stele bearing these Chinese words is the first thing greeting visitors' eyes. This quote was extracted from an interview the then Senior Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, had with Time Magazine on 7 April 1997. Originally stated in English, the memorial hall has decided to emphasize the citation's Chinese translation "孙中山,一个改变中国命运的人" .

A fervent supporter of the Chinese revolutionary cause, Teo Eng Hock later offered the place to Dr Sun for his revolutionary activities in February 1906.
