Tamuna visited Samtredia in April and found the boys doing great. They are healthy, growing, enjoying the new Hair Styling vocational Training. They all celebrated everyone's Birthday one day - it was filled with fun, performing, cakes and gifts! They also received new jackets and socks and underwear. Dr. Nino and her staff also came to give them physicals. They are all doing great - thanks to Sponsor a Child

December Visit 2011 Tamuna

It is always wonderful to visit Samtredia and to see the boys so happy and healthy! The government has renovated a 2nd building at Samtredia and their plans are to move 60 youth ~ boys and girls ~ to Samtredia. The boys continue to need nutritional food, medicines, bed linens, leather shoes, sports shoes and cothing. They continue to bake their own bread and several participate in the hairstyling workshop. They enjoy their 3 bikes and the new sports field.

Christmas JOY 2011

On December 27th Santa arrived at Samtredia. The day was filled with music and dancing - delicious cakes and bags filled with fruit, presents and candy. It was also a day of Celebration for the Staff. A grand time was had by all.

Fall Mission Team Visit October 2011

The Mission Team spent a wonderful Sunday with the Samtredia youth! We had sent ahead a popsicle-project & each boy build a bridge. We then had a very stiff competition when the team arrived. Jaba's bridge won ~ it held over 26 pounds of sand before it broke (much to Jaba's dismay). The boys also painted and decorated wooden picture frames and were given their photo. They loved the block building! Unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't play basketball and soccer, but we gave them several new balls. They also got hygiene kits, bananas and T-shirts and soccer sweat bands. We also gave them a couple of soccer posters. As always we had a grand time together and it is heartwarming to see the boys so healthy, happy and adjusted. A highlight for the team was tasting the fresh, hot bread which our bread-baker boys made for us!! It is part of their vocational training ~ along with hairstyling.

MAY-JUNE 2011 SAMTREDIA

Tamuna found the Samtredia boys to be happy and healthy ~ having grown since she last saw them. Thanks to the nutritious meals, medicines and medical checking, the boys are really growing. We were able to purchase sports shoes for them ~ a constant need as they grow and play basketball and soccer every day. The bread baking and hair styling vocational training continue. These youth really are thriving at Samtredia, under Gia and his staff's loving and constant care.

April 2011 SAMTREDIA

The Samtredia youth were thrilled when Terry visited and brought gifts and candy! Thanks to Sponsor a Child these boys are healthy - through good nutrition, medical checking and medicines. We also are able to provide for daily hygiene items. They always look forward to Vaso's visits as he brings them little surprises too! These boys are loved, protected and cared for by Gia and his wonderful staff.

SAMTREDIA FEBRUARY 2011

Tamuna visited Samtredia at the end of January and found all the boys to be healthy and thriving at Samtredia. Thanks to Sponsor a Child, the boys are growing and healthy. CHRISTMAS JOY 2010

On December 28th Father Christmas/Snow Granny and Vaso took Christmas Joy to the boys of Samtredia! It was a day filled with singing, dancing, performing and enjoying their bags filled with traditional Christmas candies, fruit, chocolates and toys! Each year the boys can't wait for Christmas ~ thanks to PRUMC! It is also a day of celebration for the staff.

NOVEMBER 2010 PHOTOS

Since the Samtredia youth are "incarcerated" they are in constant need of nutritional food, medicines and medical and dental checking. The team spent a great day with crafts and music. Unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't do our planned sports. The boys are happy and healthy - growing and very active. After the team left we delivered new bed linens. Many boys still have a problem with enuresis ~ as they have had traumatic experiences. Samtredia is a safe haven where boys are loved and lovingly disciplined. They are a close knit group. The breadbaking and hairstyling vocational training are still very popular.

FALL MISSION VISIT 2010

It is always great to see "our boys" at Samtredia. The team moved from our Zestaphoni home to a small inn closer to Samtredia and Etseri. We spent a wonderful Sunday (October 3rd) at Samtredia. Unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't play basketball and soccer, but we still had a great time. The boys (youth) made visors and also necklaces and bracelets with wooden beads and leather straps. We gave each boy a new sports shirt, which Vaso carefully selected. Zaza Pachulia, Hawks player, is from Georgia and he graciously signed a basketball for them. Another vendor gave us Hawks t-shirts! Giga, who has become quite a master bread-baker, treated us to hot bread right out of the oven. Both breadbaking and hair styling have been successful vocational training skills at Samtredia. There is never a language barrier when Angelie plays her guitar and sings! These boys are in such a great place. Gia and his staff are truly saving their lives and giving these boys a safe and loving "home."

JUNE Visit to SAMTREDIA

Tamuna found the boys healthy and happy at Samtredia. Thanks to Sponsor-a-Child these youth get nutritional meals and medical and dental check-ups. At Samtredia these boys also become a family. Gia, the Director, and his staff nuture and discipline these boys ~ giving them confidence and self-esteem. Our Vocational Training for hair styling and baking not only gives them self-confidence but also a trade when they must leave. 7 boys will "age out" and they had a big party for them ~ our prayers are with them. It is always wonderful to see "our boys" so healthy and happy. Thanks to each of you they have nutritional food which is necessary for their growing bodies. We were also able to purchase new sports shoes and clothes for them. A private donor gives Vaso a little "spending money" to buy surprises for the boys....these boys are so loved and cared for at Samtredia. We hope and pray that when they leave they will have a trade and self-esteem to become good citizens. There are many photos of the same thing ~ but hopefully you will see your child.

SAMTREDIA Feburary VISIT

Tamuna and Vaso visited Samtredia in February and found the boys healthy and definitely thriving under Gia's care! They sampled some of the home-made bread baked by the boys. They also hand-delivered the frisbees that were sent by Robin King/Advent Workshop from PRUMC. Thanks to Sponsor a Child these growing boys continue to receive nutritional food. Our annual medical checking revealed a problem with Beka and now we will submit for the State Insurance to fund the necessary surgery. All in all Samtredia is florishing.

DECEMBER 2009 CHRISTMAS JOY SAMTREDIA

Thanks to PRUMC's Christmas Kindness the youth of Samtredia enjoyed a day of Christmas festivities complete with a gift bag, large meal, dancing, songs and Christmas Joy! These are the only gifts these boys will receive and they truly will remember this all year long. It is also a celebration for the staff who loves these boys and who rejoice when they are happy! Our deliveries of nutritional food and medicines - in addition to the love we give - are vital in the well-being and future of these youth. Their lives truly are saved by being in Samtredia and surrounded by Gia and his staff's love and care.

NOVEMBER 2009 SAMTREDIA

The Boys at Samtredia are doing great under the loving care of the Director, Gia, and his devoted Staff. The Team had a grand time this October and after we left the boys received new T-shirts, slippers and Vaso delivered the notes from the sponosrs. They also had their medical check-ups and continue to receive nutritional food, medicines and medical monthly visits by the Doctor. The next photos will be of Christmas Joy which is funded by Christmas Kindness donations from members of Peachtree Road UMC. The boys are thriving - thanks to you!

FALL MISSION TEAM SAMTREDIA October 3, 2009

On Saturday our team of 13 traveled to Samtredia School/Institution for Juvenile Delinquents ~~ as always we had a grand time and the boys were excited to see us. They had prepared a special performance ~ break-dancing (I think that is what it is called). Youth are the same everywhere! We broughts lots of sports equipment and also handed out UMCOR Hygiene kits and School bags. The boys enjoyed painting their own Bandanas, which they wore like rappers. They also enjoyed painting rocks outside and were very creative! Rachel, Ray, and Gena gave the boys lots of competition with soccer and basketball. Glen beat the boys in arm wrestling. He was quite a hero! A private donor funds a Bakery and the boys baked us fresh, hot homemade bread ~ ymmm. And another donor finances hair-dressing vocational training! As always the boys are so polite and very appreciative and FUN!

JUNE 2009 Samtredia

Thanks to the Sponsor a Child program the youth at Samtredia receive nutritious food as well as medical care and medicines. They always help unload the food supplies which are purchased from a local purveyor. Thanks to two private donors we were able to begin a Hairdressing workshop and also Breadbaking! They are learning these trades and when they leave Samtredia they will be able to earn a living. In addition, these skills certainly boost their self-esteem. Terry Sherali visited in June and purchased T-shirts which Vaso "silk-screened" for them! They are thrilled with their new shirts! Since they are incarcerated, our assistance continues throughout the summer.

MARCH 2009 Visit SAMTREDIA

In March Tamuna visited the boys of Samtredia. She found them all happy, clean and excited to see her. Tamuna also delivered the Hospital Art which was shipped from Atlanta and will brighten their building! UMCOR also provided school bags! The government has not given any stipend for food or medicine since December, and thanks to Sponsor a Child, Gia was able to feed the boys. Some of the boys still have problems with enuresis but we are able to provide adult diapers. The boys are thrilled with their hairstylist vocational training and are also excited about learning how to be bakers (and to bake their own bread!). We feel it is crucial to give these boys a trade before they leave and return to the streets. Gia, the Director, and his staff are fabulous and these boys are in a loving environment. Thanks to Sponsor a Child they are clothed and fed!

SAMTREDIA January-February 2009

In previous years we have not needed to supplement the food for Samtredia and have been able to focus on other needs, but the government thus far in 2009 has provided nothing for food or medicine. We also have private donors who have funded a Bakery/Vocational training and also a Hairdressing Vocational Training. It is our desire to equip these boys so they can enter society as good citizens.

CHRISTMAS JOY Dec 2008

Thanks to our sponsors and the Annual Christmas Kindness donations at PRUMC the boys at Samtredia (and the staff) had a day filled with Christmas Joy! As you see the boys love to perform and we provided costumes and music! The day was complete with Father Christmas' visit ~ handing out gift bags prepared by Vaso and his family and also a bottle of soda and a box of chocolates!!! You can't imagine what this means to these boys! This IS the only Christmas these boys have and the photos reflect the fun they all had! Everyone enjoyed a special banquet of pork, fried potatoes, khachapuri (cheese bread), and, of course, fancy cakes! THANK YOU!

FALL-WINTER 2008

Even though our September Team could not travel due to the Conflict, four from PRUMC were able to travel in November. We were delighted to see all the improvements at Samtredia. A Dutch donor is renovating the interior which is marvelous! The boys look so much healthier and they have really grown! Their English lessons (private donor) are paying off and they recited prose and poems for us and even sang in English! Gia and his staff are outstanding and take such excellent care of the boys -- loving, yet with discipline. Sponsor-a-Child is truly making a huge difference in the lives of these young men.

JUNE 2008

Samtredia is home to 26 boys ~ 6 of whom must leave in September when they turn 15. We have a donor who is helping with a hairdressing vocational training and we hope to find a donor to also set up a bakery vocational training. More than anything else these boys need a trade ~ something they can do when they no longer are under the care and love of Gia and his Staff. Gia is the most resourceful of our Directors and he hopes to get PCs from the Ministry of Education. The younger boys seem to really enjoy learning English. A private donor supports an English teacher who comes 3 times a week. IF you met these boys you would want to bring them home to live with you!

CHRISTMAS JOY

Every year Peachtree Road treats the boys to Christmas Joy! Father Christmas comes with goodie bags and their is a huge feast for the Staff and boys! There are special games and performances. This Christmas Samtredia joined with Etseri Orphanage which is in the vicinity. The boys performed for Etseri on the music equipment (keyboard and microphones and stereo) provided by a private donor (they even go on competitions). This IS Christmas for these boys and thanks to you, they have a day full of love, joy and laughter! It was quite a treat both for the boys and the children of Etseri to be with one another! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

NOVEMBER 2007 SPONSOR a CHILD DELIVERIES

Here are some photos of the items which were/are delivered monthly to Samtredia. Samtredia does not need food supplements. Gia, the Director, is very resourceful and has not required our assistance, so it frees up monies for clothing and shoes and bed linens. Private donors have purchased mattresses as well, which are made in the region. The boys were also given"house-shoes" - slipper type shoes. We were also able to set up a Woodworking shop in hopes of teaching the boys a vocational trade.

FALL 2007 Mission Team

The Fall Georgia Team spent half a day at Samtredia where we played soccer and basketball and delivered new balls and book bags from UMCOR. We toured the facility and were so pleased that work done years ago still looks good. The Director, Gia, is outstanding and his love and caring for these incarcerated boys gives them HOPE. The Sponsor a Child program provides medical and dental care, clothes and shoes (which often need replenishing) and bed linens. A donor provides for an English teacher to come three times a week.

SUMMER EXCURSION to the SHORE

Thanks to the generosity of the Sponsor a Child donors, the boys of Samtredia were treated to an excursion to the shore! It was not only a treat for the boys, but also for the caregivers. In the heat of the summer, these incarcerated boys were able to go to the cool sea and as you see they had an incredibly wonderful carefree time. This gift meant more than you will ever know ~ it rewarded them for good behavior and they were trusted to go and obey rules. It was marvelous. The boys adore Gia the Director and Aleco the Assistant Director who demand a lot from the boys but who also show them great love and are wonderful male role-models ~ something which is lacking in their culture.
