The Birthday for All! May 2012

In May Kitski Institution Children and Youth celebrated the Great Day of the Birthday for All! The Donor Gifted the Children the Joy and Happiness! Beautiful cakes, music, dances, Gifts - all those components Made up the Day of the Children!

APRIL 2012

Tamuna visited Kitski in April and the youth were thrilled to show her their special classes which are funded by donors: Breadbaking, Hairstyling, Sewing, Dance and Music. The children/youth are already planning for the Team's visit in September when they will perform for us and have an exposition of Sewing talent! Tamuna visited the Beradze sister whose home burned. A donor has been helping the family. The newly varnished Great Hall floor is in good shape and the gravel walkway between buildings is also a great help in winter and rain. Tamuna sampled the delicious bread made by our Bread Bakers. The children from 3-18 are doing very well thanks to Sponsor a Child.

KITSKI MARCH 2012

Even though Kitski has been cut off most of the winter due to heavy snow, the children still have kept warm and have enjoyed nutritious meals. They loved the Advent Workshop gifts which were mailed by PRUMC's children. The Youth have been really enjoying the vocational training classes in hair styling, bread baking, sewing. Dance is so important in their culture and the children love the new teacher ~ all these things are funded by private, generous donors!

December 2011 Visit

Tamuna visited Kitski in December and found the children/youth healthy & happy. The preschoolers had received new toys for their room. The children also received new warm leather shoes/boots thanks to Sponsor a Child. They also got new warm winter coats. They have already had a lot of snow at Kitski. Medicines and nutritional food continue to be part of sponsor a child ~ and reason why they are so healthy. The older youth are excited about vocational training ~ bread baking, hair styling and sewing will begin in January. We thank you all for your generosity and support this past year! Didi Gmadloba!

Christmas JOY 2011

On December 22nd Santa Claus visited Kitski and everyone was thrilled ~ from the 3 year olds to the staff!! It was a Day of Celebration!! They had cakes, performed, danced and received gift bags filled with fruit, nuts and candy ~~ and a few gifts! Santa this year dressed in an American Costume (his wish that we send!), instead of the tradition white "Snow Granny." All were thrilled. Santa paid a special visit to the Preschool Children who had their own little tree!

November 18, 2011

On November 11, 2011 Kitski celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Local & regional government officials, former students, the news media, family members, and retired teachers were all invited to this special celebration. Thanks to a private donor we provided fancy cakes & lemonade for all. The children/youth performed in the Great Hall ~ and sang "The Yellow Submarine" and all the songs they learned in October. The choir amazed the honored guests! Everyone was so impressed with Kitski and all the work that has been done there ~ and they thanked the Sponsor a Child Program. Now that we have a Choir and keyboard Director (thanks to a donor), we hope the choirs will compete and perform perhaps even in Tbilisi. The day was one they will never forget ~ even though it was very cold & snowing.

FALL MISSION TRIP 2011 KITSKI

The Team spent 4 full, joy-filled days at Kitski this year. In keeping with our 2nd ten-year focus, we concentrated on team leadership & team work, self-esteem building, vocational opportunities for the middle-high school youth. We were busy with arts & crafts with the little ones. We did 2 incredible things this year: we formed 2 choirs who merged for a finale performance (with a standing ovation as they sang Beatles songs in English & traditional music). Also the youth had a "Who's Got Talent" show for us ~ the team was judge (what a hard job to choose the best). Our children are healthy, so happy and growing. The benefist of Sponsor a Child are evident & now we can focus on giving them tools and training as the older ones age out. It was a trip of JOY and HOPE for a bright future.

KITSKI JUNE EXCURSIONS

Thanks to the generosity of a group of donors the children at Kitski were treated to excursions at the end of the school year. The younger and middle school groups were divided and went to Kutaisi - over an hour away - the 2nd largest city in Georgia. The older and graduating youth were treated to a two-day trip to Batumi on the Black Sea - about 5 hrs. away. This is the first time they had seen the sea and for most the first time they even went to Kutaisi. The pictures speak a thousand words, but they were thrilled to see the historical sites which they have only read about. And to swim in the Black Sea was a dream come true. For many this will be the only time they go. We are most grateful to the generosity of so many!

May June 2011

Tamuna had a wonderful visit to Kitski recently and the children always love seeing her. She was so impressed with the bread that they are now baking - not only learning a trade, but also making their own food! The hair styling vocational training continues to be a huge success. Offering hope and a future to these children is crucial. Tamuna found them very healthy and happy. Illnesses are way down since they now get nutritious food. One of the highlights for the older children was the excursion into Kutaisi - the 2nd largest city in Georgia!

APRIL 2011

The 150+ children at Kitski receive nutritional & hot meals, medicines, medical checking, dental care ~ all thanks to you, our 2011 Sponsors. As you see, they are just precious ~ so joy-filled and appreciative of the smallest things. We are excited about the two vocational training programs: Hair-styling and now Breadbaking. Not only will we teach them to bake bread, but the children at Kitski will also enjoy eating the bread every day (reducing our food costs!). For all practical purposes, other than a meager stipend from the municipality, PRUMC is their sole support. We thank you for your generosity and compassion.

FEBRUARY KITSKI 2011

At the end of January Tamuna visited Kitski and was pleased to find all the children healthy and very happy. She always makes sure that the things which have been given are being cared for. She meets with Hamlet, the Director, and his staff to see what needs and concerns they may have. The hair styling vocational training is very successful and we will soon start bread baking. Not only will we cut down our food costs, but also teach the youth to bake. We are trying to finds funds to do more and more vocational training. CHRISTMAS JOY at KITSKI

On December 27th Vaso and "Father Christmas" delivered Christmas Joy to the Kitski children and Youth. Christmas is celebrated on January 7th In the Georgian Orthodox faith. The gifts you see are probably the only gifts these children will receive. The photos express their "thank You". The day was filled with laughter and joy as they dressed up, danced, sang & performed. Vaso and his family assembled wonderful gift bags for each child filled with traditional Christmas candies, fruit, chocolate and a little toy. A private donor gave money for toys for Kitski's preschool children and they are thrilled.The knit caps were hand-knit by the ladies of Carteret Street UMC in Beaufort, SC ! Thank you for your Christmas Kindness offering which provides this great joy for these precious children.

NOVEMBER at KITSKI

The Fall Mission Team had an incredible time playing (and working) at Kitski. We had been given donations from friends and after we left we were able to deliver & install window glass so the winter cold would not come in. Wealso hired a local business to make pillows and comforters for the children. We bought two vacuums to be used in the bedroom & preschool rooms.A DVD was purchased for the preschoolers so they could watch movies on cold winter days. The Hairstyling Vocational training is in high demand. We purchased additional chairs so others could watch the instructor. We are hoping to start a breadbaking vocational training which would also provide bread for the 170 students.

FALL MISSION TEAM at KITSKI 2010

Our team of 13 spent 4.5 days at Kitski and we had a great time ~ there were crafts and art for all ages and music and dance. We played UNO every afternoon (even the little ones are quite the players ~ changing rules as they go). We always had a pick up game of basketball and a soccer ball being kicked around. Ping pong inside and between classes the children always rush to the playground a donor had built. We were impressed with the new Hair Styling vocational training and the week we left the Plumbing Apprenticeship was beginning. Friday was Field/Olympic Day and we spent the entire day outside with all sorts of relays and tug of war! Our time went by too fast but we have photos to remind us!

JUNE KITSKI

Tamuna visited Kitski on June 6th, meeting with the staff and closely inspecting the institution. She was pleased to see that the bathrooms were clean and that all the items which donors have purchased over the years are in good condition. It is wonderful to see the photos of renovated rooms with new blackboards being used and to see the children enjoying bikes, the swingset, piano, sports field, art. We are in the process of building a Hairstyling Vocational Training area - thanks to three major donors. The playground is also being repaired as it is constantly being used. As soon as school is over we will be re-painting the gym and floor. Several children received emergency medical care through PRUMC and Tamuna reports they are now doing very well.

March Photo Update

Unfortunately Kitski was unable to escape the flu epidemic, but thanks to Sponsor a Child the children were treated with antibiotics. Dr. Nana (our hostess and their pediatrician) is the most loving and compassionate person. The children love and trust her. Through Sponsor a Child these children receive much-needed nutritional food. The State government offers no support. Words can never express our gratitude nor the magnitude of your giving and concern. Thank you!!

February Visit

Attached are photos of Tamuna's recent visit to Kitski. It was wonderful to see that the ping pong table is being enjoyed - and also to see that Hamlet is taking care of all the different "gifts" of donors ~ heaters, sports pad (when it gets warmer), Swing set will get new paint in the spring, bikes will be used in the spring!

DECEMBER 2009 CHRISTMAS JOY KITSKI

Thanks to Christmas Kindness at Peachtree Road UMC, the children of Kitski celebrated Christmas. Father Christmas/Snow Granny came loaded with gift bags which Vaso and his family assembled. They were filled with fruit, candies, and little presents! For most of the children this is the only present they will receive. The day was filled with music and dancing and they dressed up in costumes ~ all feeling the Spirit of Christmas. The Joy of this day will last all year long! Didi Gmadloba ~ thank you very much! We also had another delivery of much-needed medicines - the photos are attached.

NOVEMBER 2009

The children loved their notes/stickers and photos that you sent them all the way from America!! Thank you! The 5th graders at PRUMC also made cards as did a class at Westminster! Stickers are always a huge hit! Thank you all. There are also a few photos of food deliveries - including some cookies! UMCOR is a wonderful partner of PRUMC and whenever they get hygiene or school kits they send an allotment to our children. We have just heard that they will also be providing us with medicines and antibiotics for winter! We are most grateful. Several private donors gave us extra monies for our trip and we were able to purchase new maps. The previous maps were from the Soviet times - well worn and very outdated!

OCTOBER Team Trip to KITSKI

Our Fall Team of 13 had a marvelous visit at Kitski. Our 7 days there were filled with crafts, painting, tattoos, bandana painting, beads, painting Canvas with Georgia O'Keefe sunflowers and Peter Max' Hearts. We played basketball and soccer ~ and at the end of the day, UNO was always a treat! The little ones are quite competitive with UNO! Teachers and children participated in all sorts of art. We made butterflies, kites, stargazers; sea shell book marks among other fun things! The preschoolers were happy at coloring, stickers and playing musical instruments! The first graders made a "transportation book!" There was not a lack of squeels of joy, hugs and kisses. As always it was so hard to say "good bye," but in Kartuli (Georgian) it is really : Nachwamdis ~ until we see one another again.

JUNE 2009

In addition to our regular deliveries of nutritional food and medicines, a private donor also purchased needed mattresses and bed linens. Another donor has purchased a keyboard which the children will enjoy and another donor has purchased more textbooks and audio-visual aids. Yet another donor has purchased in country the materials to build a basketball court. Hamlet, the Director, and his men will provide the labor ~ real team effort. We thank you for your ongoing support and prayers for the 175 children at Kitski!

MARCH 2009 Visit

Tamuna visited Kitski March 25th and found our 170 children doing very well. She toured the kindergarten - see photos - and the small heaters were working. A donor has offered to purchase 10 more mattresses and box springs for the preschoolers. We are hoping to find a donor to fund a hairstyling vocational training. It is very successful at other institutions! Hamlet said that 20 students will be graduating in 2009 and at least 10 hope to enter college or the university. We pray they get grants. The children are enjoying table tennis during these winter months (a gift of a donor) and also new bikes. The doctor had to make several extra visits due to a severe flu outbreak, but the children are better now. Again, Sponsor a Child is the ONLY aid Kitski receives - for medical, food, heat, clothing.... Thank You!

JANUARY-FEBRUARY 2009 KITSKI

In addition to providing much-needed nutritional food and medicines, we also had wonderful surprises for the children. The Children's Advent Workshop at PRUMC chose as its Christmas project to make hand-made Christmas cards and to purchase little toys for all our children at all the institutions. We distributed the toys to the younger children and they were thrilled. See the photos of them holding their cards too! Also, a private donor purchased some bikes for Kitski. The children will share ~ which is how they always do. They could not believe it when Vaso drove up --- BIKES! Thanks to our Sponsors and Donors this winter was a wonderful one for these children. CHRISTMAS JOY Dec 2008

Preparation for Christmas Joy was a huge task as you can see. 174 children and youth were treated to a special meal complete with soda (green bottles) and cakes. Vaso and his family assembled gift bags for each child! The ping pong table was the gift of a PRUMC donor! The children always love to dress up and perform - the puppet show was a delight. Thanks to PRUMC Father Christmas was able to bring great JOY to these at-risk children. Thank you!

FALL-WINTER 2008

Unfortunately the Sept Team was unable to travel due to the Conflict, but four were able to visit Kitski in November. Attached are photos of all the improvements made during the year plus everything done this fall. We were so very pleased to see the children healthier than ever - to see the new bathrooms/sewer built in partnership with UMCOR & Dept. of State and PRUMC. We also were impressed with the renovated classrooms, infirmary, kitchen and dining hall. It is amazing the difference sponsor-a-Child makes in the lives of these 174 children!!! Thank YOU!

Late June 08 VISIT

Thanks to a private donor we were able to have a playground built (provided jobs too!) for the younger children at Kitski. We have also had deliveries of shoes and clohting and jerseys ~ gifts of special donors. The sponsor a child program provides for nutritional food. Thanks to UMCOR we were able to bull-doze the outhouse (used by 150+ people) and build a sewer/bathroom system in the Classroom building. UMCOR received a Dept of State (DOS) grant for $10,000 and PRUMC raised $6000 for this project ~ another example of partnerships! A donor also provided for art supplies - note the jewelry and other items made by the children. The bare walls are now painted and filled with their colorful art work. JUNE VISIT to KITSKI

Tamuna just returned from a wonderful visit to Kitski. She met with the director, Hamlet, the caregivers and teachers, nurse and kitchen staff. We are partnering with UMCOR to build bathrooms in the classroom building (serves 142 children). This is the FIRST time in 20 years that there has been a bathroom in this building! Photos of the preschool rooms, ktichen, dining hall and infirmary, which the team renovated last year, are amazing. We hope to find special donors for several needs: They need a gutter rebuilt on the bedroom building; the children desire an excursion. For the first time they have a football (soccer) team of 16. They won first place in a regional tournament and would love to have T-shirts, jerseys, shorts and sports footwear. They need school items (paper, pencils, notebooks) and new blackboards in all classrooms ~ among other things..... We are grateful to Sponsor-a-Child which has been 1000% successful in improving health and well-being!

NEW PLAYGROUND !!

A Private donor was moved by the photos last year of the "playground" at Kitksi, which consisted of a board across a pipe ~ A sole teeter-totter. Please enjoy the following photos of the children's sheer joy swinging and playing on their NEW Playground! The pictures speak for themselves. They have leveled and fenced in an area between the dining hall/kitchen and the classroom building. The building in the background of these photos is the dining hall. This playground was hand-made ~ thereby also providing much-needed jobs! A special Thanks to our Donor!

APRIL at KITSKI

Tamuna visited Kitski and took the following photos of the medical delivery, medical check-ups - new shoes which the Sponsor-a-child provided. The bikes for the little ones were the gift of a private donor and the large wardrobe was also from a private donor. Please note the new preschool rooms which Fall 2007 Team renovated - the new carpet and pictures on the walls! We can't tell you what a transformation it has been ~~ thanks to you all!

Winter Coats arrive and balls too November 2007

Private Donors gave special donations to the children of Kitski - warm, new winter coats - just in time for the coldest winter since 1911. Kitski is very remote and was cut off much of the winter. We also were able to give them fun things ~ balls! Thank You!

Fall 2007 TEAM VISIT

Team Georgia 2007 spent a full week and several days at Kitski working and playing with the children. Here are some shots of team members with the children. We did work...but we played a lot too!! The sports and crafts were a huge hit! And we handed out the new bikes given by the Great Expectations Class!! the very last day we gave the children the notes which you sent - along with a banana and a canvas bag filled with school items from UMCOR (assembled at The Depot in LA).

June 2007 KITSKI Excursions

When the Sponsors were asked if they would like to "treat" their child to an excursion, the response was overwhelming. We decided to have three separate excursions - age appropriate. This is the first time most of the children have left their villages. It was incredible. The photos speak for themselves.

Older Youth' Excursion

Thanks to our Sponsors the older youth were treated to an excursion to Kakheti in East Georgia. They went to very beautiful spots such as Sagaredjo, Tsinandali, and Telavi - the main city of Kakheti. (these are the names of famous brands of wines too)
