Art vs. Art 2010 - Paint Day

A record 136 artists painted at this year's Art vs. Art Paint Day, held at the City Market in downtown Indianapolis. They had just four hours to paint with the materials given to them.

Installation Nation 2010

Seven 20-foot shipping containers were dropped off on the vacant lot on the northwest corner of N. College Ave. & E. Michigan St. in Lockerbie. 10 artists constructed their installation pieces within them. The event took place June 4-5, 2010.

A-Holes 2010

Couchfire Collective invited 18 art organizations to create 18 holes of miniature golf, irreverently dubbed “A-Holes.” So we put our creative talents to work to create Hole #10. The event was held March 19-21, 2010, at the Gateway Film Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Allotropy 2008

Allotropy is the existence of an element in multiple forms, and in this case – amazing contemporary art. Primary Colours' Allotropy 2008 was a juried art event that combined 22 Indiana artists in a variety of artistic mediums with musical performances in a disused space on May 9-10, 2008 in Fountain Square.

TOYS 2007

Primary Colours invited 20 fantastic artists to create and exhibit a piece inspired by the theme of toys. Artists kept all the proceeds of the sale of their art. The festive and free event took place on Dec. 7, 2007 in Gallery No. 2 at the Harrison Center for the Arts.

Art vs. Art 2008 - Main Event

160 artists from four cities--Indianapolis, Columbus (OH), Louisville, Hammond--had only four hours to create a masterpiece with the materials we provided them. After the dust settled, Ryan Alvis emerged the champion, receiving $3,000 and selling his painting for an additional $825.

Fringe Mob 2006

To help promote the IndyFringe, Primary Colours held a flash mob that we dubbed “The Running of the Fringe.” On Aug. 25, we asked folks to gather at the south side of Monument Circle. All we told them was that they had to wear red... Check out the hilarity on the Circle from the FringeMob.

Each summer, Primary Colours partners with the Arts Council of Indianapolis to present a series of free workshops for the emerging and professional artist. Topics range from legal issues to marketing your work to writing effective artist statements.

The 7th installment of our invitational holiday art exhibit took place on Dec. 4, 2009 at ARTBOX Gallery and featured 20 artists who made one piece interpreting the theme of toys however they saw fit.

Art vs. Art 2009 - Main Event

Art vs. Art returned to the Vogue in Broad Ripple and delivered a rip roarin' show. 113 artists battled it out, and Mab Graves took home the title belt and the check for $3,500. Alas, she took her chances with the dreaded Wheel of Death, which came up Instant Death and spelled the demise of her winning painting.
