Dinner our first night in Hong Kong. My mom really wanted some soup and 魚蛋 (think fish balls that you put in hotpot..) I was kind of disappointed, not sure what the big deal was.
Streets in Hong Kong remind me a lot of some streets in Taiwan... all the neon signs hanging overhead.
Lady's Market at night... Great place to buy clothing and all sorts of other stuff ladies would want I suppose.
Woo hoo, the red taxis! (You understand I've only seen them in HK movies right...)
My mom and I discovered the awesomeness of Sweet Dynasty (糖朝) FYI it is a pun on Tang (唐) dynasty. I was happy to hear that they finally opened one in Taipei... now I can enjoy all the wonderful sweet desserts without going to HK.
Dessert at "Sweet Dynasty", it was some kind of cold gelatin dessert (think milk with touch of coconut flavor IIRC).
超好吃的水果豆花 Mango/fruit Tofu Pudding... Bonus points for using dry ice for presentation. Wonderfully light and refreshing on a hot summer night
芒果西米露 Mango Sago pudding, not quite as good as the tofu but I love sago... :) It had a very nice taste to it... my mouth water just looking at these photos again...
Giant LV store... every women's dream and every man's nightmare.
Star Ferry at night...
Yep... you've seen this thousands of times before... Typical Hong Kong skyline. My turn to take the same exact shot that EVERYONE takes at the same exact place....
Olympic rings
Nothing like dim sum for brunch!
我不喜歡白蘿蔔 可是不知道為什麼超喜歡吃蘿蔔糕的... I love radish cakes at dim sum...
I would love to tell you what all we ate... except it's been 5 months and I can't remember... I just remember it was good and there were lots of choices we didn't have in the states :)
The bird garden has become quite the tourist spot... not entirely sure why.
I don't know why I really wanted to come here to take photos of bird cages and people...
Some privacy please...
Bird prison...
It was typhoon weather so couldn't see much of anything...
Is it wrong that this shot reminded of me Ella... (the ladder)?
Riding the star ferry... not sure why but people say it's a 'must do' thing.
This shot just reminded me of "love"...
Waiting for the tram to The Peak
The tram to the Peak goes up a hill as steep as 45 degree angle...
Weird feeling...
Madame Tussauds Wax museum. Hey it's Jackie!
View from the Peak 山頂)... now if only the weather was better....
It basically started pouring rain 5 mins after we got up to the peak... yeah... needless to say we saw nothing.
I like the motion blur of people hurrying past you in the crowded street... This nice lady was walking with us telling us how to get to Wan Chai 灣仔
Hong Kong convention center with the Bauhinia sculpture in front. They hold a flag raising ceremony here every morning
Reunification Monument. It was during China's national holiday so there were quite a few tourist taking photos of it. Not sure why I joined in the fun...
I thought this was really pretty... but it's just an office center.
Central Plaza
The security guard was really nice to let me play tourist... he only came up to me after a good 5 or 10 minutes to tell me no photos inside... :)
Dinner restaurant
魚腐西洋菜 Veggie with fish cakes in soup. This was SOOO good. The soup was absolutely amazing.
羊城特辣炒 (Sauteed Shrimp with hot and spicy sauce Gaungzhou style) Won some award in food competition in 2005
I personally thought my photos were better than the photos on the menu ^_^
Menu photo for comparison
梅子焗乳鴿 Baby pigeon.... Sorry folks, Chinese dishes more often than not includes the head :)
The eyes just reminds of those anime scenes with the animal going X_X...
Back at Tsim Sha Tsui along the avenue of stars to watch the laser light show that happens every night (on both sides)
Unfortunately with the terrible weather you couldn't see much of anything....
At least now you can see the laser lights... but with the low cloud cover the entire sky is just too bright. Oh well.
With affordable SLRs, every other person is able to buy an SLR and set up a photo booth along popular tourist spots. It's mindless really, just dial in the setting, leave it on a tripod and offer your services for cheap. I don't understand why people fall for it... It really ruins the moment for me, imagine you have these booths lined up all along Grand Canyon constantly asking you if you want a photo for 99 cents... I joked with my mom that this is what I'll do when I retire...
Our second visit to Sweet Dynasty. This time, mixed fruit sago... Not as good as the mango one.
Woo more mix fruit tofu pudding.... sweet! I really love their hand made tofu, extremely fresh and soft.
Alley way in central HK
Blue sky... this was our last day (half day in fact) and it is the first time I saw blue sky in HK... why couldn't it be this kind of weather when we went up to the Peak..... >.<. On a side note, doesn't this remind you of something from the Ghost in the Shell movie?
Walking up along the world's longest covered escalator from Central to Mid-level... I didn't realize the escalator is one way (and it is down in the morning, up during most of the day). We walked ALL the way to the top (I told my mom it's good exercise...)
Dr. Sun Yat-sen museum along the escalator... it didn't open for another half hour but we'd have to head back by then...
Finally we made it to the top with about 20 mins to spare (otherwise the escalator direction would reverse and we'd have to walk down... I think my mom would kill me)
Life is like an escalator... many stops along the way?
