Practice burn - 13 APR 10 - Remainder of damaged barn south of Johnson Creek

Purpose of drill was exposure protection - preventing nearby building and property from damage in fire emergencies. Thanks to the Hildreth's for use of their former barn.

Practice Burn - 10 APR 10 - Wild land fire on Switzke Rd south of CTH B

Farmer donated use of 25 acre field that had been in gov't program for 10 years. There was an abundance of fuel for practice wild land fire. Lake Mills, Jefferson and Helenville departments participated as well.

SUV vs minivan at HWY 26 and eastbound on ramp to I-94

Impact caused SUV to roll over and land off of the roadway, while snapping a traffic signal pole. A passenger in the van and the only occupant of the SUV were transported to Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital via ambulance rigs 703 and 704.

Site of relatively frequent accidents at the intersection of Old HWY 26 and the west bound on ramp to I-94. SUV vs mini van. Two in the SUV and a family on vacation in the van. Two from the van were transported to Oconomowoc Hospital.

Vehicle fire 11 FEB 2010

Strange call in which a caller reported a vehicle on fire, presumably after running off of I-94 near MM265. State Patrol investigated and found it hadn't run off the road, but on property with another access point. Fire went to two locations to find the best access, then ended up going to the closest point on I-94. Fire had dissipated significantly on arrival. Bitter cold weather and a long trek to the scene found a totally destroyed vehicle. The driver had become lost and stuck in this remote location. Driver was transported to an area hospital.

2009 Awards Program

2009 Awards program recognized 9 people for lifesafing acts in two separate incidents. Additionally eight were given certificates of meritorious service for volunteering EMS duty more than 100 hours per month for the entire year. Helenville Fire Department First Responders were awarded a ceritificate for their newly formed first responder unit.

HAZMAT incident, Comfort Suites Johnson Creek, WI

Johnson Creek Fire & EMS Dept called for two youths in distress after spending time in spa area. A mechanical fault had released to much of an unknown, but potentially harmful substance. The Lake Mills contingent of the Jefferson County HAZMAT team was called and HAZMAT personnel from Johnson Creek shut down the mechanical equipment responsible, secured and ventilated the area. Two youths were transported to Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital.

Wild Land Fire

About 30 acres burned on CTH Y north of the village. Nine area departments called in on mutual. Red Cross was on hand to provide snacks and liquids so firefighters could stay hydrated.

Easter 2009 - Barn fire, Ranch Road

A passerby on I-94 noticed this barn on fire Easter Sunday in the afternoon. Just south of Ranch Road, the department also called in WFD and Ixonia. Jefferson EMS came to scene as well as both 703 and 704 were called to other emergencies. One firefighter sustained a non-lifethreatening injury and was transported to Watertown Memorial Hospital.

Johnson Creek Fire & EMS called shortly before 6 a.m. - department experts had to extricate driver of car. That driver transported to Watertown Hospital. Shortly after medical air evac to trauma center. Two people in semi, treated at the scene and released. Vehicles came to a stop in a plowed field west of the HWY. House Fire High Road

Call for a house fire New Years Eve, early afternoon. Was called in by someone passing on HWY 26. Mutual aid was provided by Watertown, Lake Mills and Ixonia. Temperature about 10 degrees. Departments on scene for about 6.5 hours. House considered a complete loss. None of the family who lived at the residence were home. Unfortunately, two dogs were killed in the blaze.

Accident 26 and River Dr

First snow of the year, 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of River Drive and state Highway 26 near Johnson Creek, WI. Driver in a Pontiac Grand Dam didn't see a snow plow/dumptruck ahead and was too late to avoid sliding under the truck with severe impact The collision killed the driver of the car. The snow plow driver was unhurt.

Truck fire early 2 AUG 08

An early morning pickup truck fire in the Menards parking lot. Was out upon arrival. (It's not often, but sometimes Late Night PIO and Early Morning PIO don't really get along. It's usually after Late Night PIO simply refuses to recognize that Early Morning PIO exists. This call was very early, when Late Night PIO had barely gone off duty and Early Morning PIO was in denial. It may show up in the photos. Again it is a rare conflict, but...)

March 25 flashback

As it turns out, the rescue call on March 25 for horse that had fallen through the ice covering a pond was a two-horse rescue. (See photos from 25 MAR 08). Early July the mare rescued in March had a foal, which has been named Black Thunder. WTMJ 4 said they wanted to revisit the story. Asst Cheif Wolf gathered as many of the people who were on the original call as possible on very short notice. The group returned to the Milbrath's home to see the foal and so that TMJ 4 could interview department members. Reporter George Mallet did the story for Channel 4. Additionally, Connie Milbrath presented the Mutual Hose Company with a donation.

080712sm - Eastbound I-94, vehicle leaves roadway

It appears vehicle left roadway at highway speed, taking vehicle to the middle of a nearby field...stopping for nothing in it's way. Ditch, wire fence, standing water and standing crop slowed vehicle to a halt. Mosquitoes were in an abundance as crew walked driver up to the roadway, to the waiting ambulance 703.

Roll over MM269

West bound I-94- SUV type vehicle went into cartwheel - nose-to-tail - off of westbound side of the interstate. Extrication techniques adapted to several conditions related to vehicle structure. Lake Mills EMS and 799 paramedics were called. A search ensued when one of the people in the vehicle mentioned there could be a third person. Subsequent communication indicated that wasn't the case. Driver and one passenger were flown to Milwaukee on two separate air evac choppers. EMS and FD worked in concert to make this protracted rescue effort a success.

PIO Training

Two-day short course for Public Information Officers. Twenty four people from emergency services, governent offices and public services attended. Course gave basic info on media relations, obligations of public agencies to an informed public as well as basic process working in the ICS setting. Four instructors from the state emergency management training program facilitated the class. The course was brought to Jefferson County via a grant written by Jefferson County Director of Emergency Management Donna Haugom.

Truck Fire HWY 26

South bound box truck loses it's rear axle (with dualies). The axle rolls off the east side of HWY. Truck smacks an oncoming car. Another car bangs into that car as truck goes sparking across HWY with no rear axle, wheels, tires, differential,etc. Gas tank is punctured and sparks ignite fuel. Cold water rescue training

Cold water rescue at Loeb Pond. An opportunity to practice and stay current on cold water rescue in a relatively controlled environment, firefighter crews were able to rotate out and practice rescuing mock vicitms. Temperature during training 18 degrees F. Use of the Loeb family pond is appreciated as a prime example of support for the department from a community member. Two members of the Johnson Creek Fire and EMS Department were recognized for their years of service Saturday at the organization's annual holiday and awards function. Leon "Sammy" Werner has been on the department for 60 years of service as a firefighter and most recently as station warden . John Kleinsteiber has served 32 years through the rank of captain, in addition Kleinsteiber served as president of the Johnson Creek Mutual Hose, Co. The event also recognized Dolora Kleinsteiber as Firefighter of the Year and Joshua Kraemer as EMT of the Year. A 10-year plaque was presented to former EMS Chief and department EMS Deputy Chief Ed Karwacki for his decade as a member and leader of the Johnson Creek EMS. A New Flag

Hoisting a new flag at the Station. This was a comedy of errors...of sorts. The former US flag at the station was starting to look a bit ragged. A new flag flies over the station. Snowmobile Accident through the ice - two drown - Johnson Creek Fire & EMS Department

Two snowmobilers went through thin ice on Rock River south of Johnson Creek WI. First victim, a female was pulled from under ice and transported to Watertown Hospital. Efforts to revive continued at hospital, but victim succumbed. Accident occurred on a Saturday evening, but second victim was not recovered from under the ice until late Monday a.m. In addition to JC F&EMS Dept, Jefferson Co. Sheriff's Dept Dive Unit, Lake Mills FD Water Rescue with air boat, Lake Mills EMS, Jefferson EMS, Watertown FD Paramedics, Fort Atkinson Healthcare Paramedics and Wisconsin DNR took part in operations. Fatality Accident HWY 26 at Jefferson Road. Car vs pickup truck. Five individuals involved - three in car, two in pickup. All three in car were high school age. Two occupants in car died on the scene. In addition to JC Fire and EMS, Lake Mills EMS, Jefferson EMS, Fort Atkinson Hospital Paramedics, Watertown Fire Department Paramedics along with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept, Wisconsin State Patrol and Johnson Creek PD. Fire escape doubles for a balcony on this old building. A decorative rail has vertical spikes. A renter fell and put one of the spikes through his hand. Rescue had to cut the spike and EMS 703 transported the patient with the spike. Patient was transported to Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Accident: Two large trucks and three smaller vehicles bring eastbound I-94 to a crawl for more than four hours during Friday rush hour. Fuel leak had to be contained. Five vehicles involved. The two trucks were westbound, collided, slid across median then across eastbound lane and stopped beyond the south shoulder of the east bound lanes. Of the five vehicles, involved only one sustained significant damage. Two truck drivers were transported to area hospitals. In addition to containing fuel leak, the tanker truck had to be righted and payload had to be pumped out. Cargo in tanker was waste sludge and used motor oil. 20MAR07 - Two car accident I-94

Evidently one vehicle hit a deer, sending it out of control and facing it into traffic. The second vehicle collided with the first and pushed them both off under an overpass. All involved were able to walk away from the scene. The biggest threat was a ruptured fuel tank, which continued to leak during rescue ops. Rollover Union Street in the village

Rollover withing village. Vehicle swerved, glanced off parked pickup truck and rolled over. Determined that is was not going an excessive rate of speed. Mother and two children in vehicle.
