Grand Opening of the Sherman Oaks Adult Center
Councilmember Paul Krekorian, City Controller Wendy Greuel and a host of other community leaders inaugurated the Sherman Oaks/East Valley Adult Center.
Construction on the adult center, in the works since 2004, began in 2009. The project replaces the original, 1961 building with a new, 16,000 square foot facility built using a combination of state grants, city funds and Community Development Block Grants. The LEED-certified building’s wood floors were built using reclaimed planks, lighting is motion sensitive and the paint is lead-free and odorless. Most of the materials come from less than 50 miles away. The building, designated as an emergency evacuation center, is seismic proof.
