So we started the day off by taking the train to Forest Park in St. Louis. This is a sweet place - all of the attractions and sponsored by the city and therefore free.
Our first free stop: the museum of some type of history. I enjoyed seeing the world's fair exhibit. We didn't find anything else that was particularly interesting, so we went to our next location.
The park was quite lovely...home to birds such as these..
..who (the birds) were hanging out on this bridge...
...which (the bridge) was used by these nice, horse mounted policewomen....
...who (policewomen) led us to the art museum.
But before going to the art museum, we saw this unique sculpture and took a short detour.
Jeff pondered the meaning of the sculpture.
Much like the Philadelphia Art museum, this art museum has a lovely outside that overlooks a waterway in one direction. Notice the smoke.
A golf course! Oh yes, it was such a lovely place.
We couldnt really figure out what was going on with the smoke. After watching it grow and grow, we gave up and walked towards the art museum.
This man was doing the equivalent of running the rocky stairs.
The pathway to Art.
This great staircase rested between two walls of mirrors. Fun!
I've seen this in textbooks! This, however, was real.
Speaking of real, this looks ike a re-print of a photograph. It is not. This is a painting. The crazy thing is that even if you get right up next to the painting, it still looks like a photo.
Look! A bear! No, this wasn't in the art museum. This was in the zoo. It's also found in Forest Park and is free!
We took a brief zoo trip to the north pole. Besides melting ice, we found penguins.
Rattlesnake! I finally found one. And luckily, it was behind very thick glass.
I'm not sure what these alligators were up to, but hey, to each his own. It's pretty much the same as guys tackling each other.
A romantic rotunda...but since it was Jeff and I, there was no romance.
Jeff and wrought iron.
Aha! The metro! While not nearly as flexible as the DC system, it had the same general feel.
And then we went out for some sushi...yum. Sushi led us here...the city museum.
What is the city museum? I don't know, you tell me. It is a child's dreamland and playground.
(and Jeff's playground)
It is also modern art...interactive art.
It is home to model trains. (Note that you can climb in the middle)
It also features old equipment from the St. Louis area. In this room, everything was from old route 66 joints.
The space room!
Fountains! They have fake caves too!
They also had humorous exhibits. Note the one here.
The corndog...
Big underwear! Translate the caption...
Jeff and I found a working laundry room in the museum...not sure what was up with that...
I liked this Big Boy. Maybe someone who is older actually knows what company Big Boy stood for.
The gift shop...and coat check...on the 4th of 4 floors. I'm not sure what was up with this.
And there was a skate park assembly.
The outdoor playground...also four stories tall.
The cool stairs and indoor slide.
The model train world is a tad unusual...
Notice jeff climbing down...
I thought he might get stuck...nope.
A bank vault!
Inside the bank vault.
Jeff almost getting wet while I chatted with the nice lady about things to do in the St. Louis area.
The fisheye really fits the city museum.
After the city museum, we thought we'd go see the arch.
Tada! Archness.
It's a national park, operated by the NPS.
Sadly, the tram to the top was broken on one side and the line was too long. So we were stuck at the bottom.
Jeff and the arch.
Me...under the arch. You can't see the arch, but trust me, it's there.
My interpretation of the arch.
Jeff's interpretation of the arch. Oddly similar.
Here is the entrance to the tram.
We needed to make sure that we capture all of the standard touristy photos.
And we went here next! Notice that the St. Louis pitcher is batting 8th in the lineup here...curious.
Everyone's favorite man...Pujols. (It's pronounced "poo holes.")
IR of the stadium.
This swing became a hit.
Another IR. Jeff was so distracted by our conversation that he didn't even notice I was taking photos.
The final play of the game!
