Israel #10 - October Galilee Trip

An Overseas Student Program trip to the North of Israel. We visited Tzfat, did a hike in the surrounding mountains, stayed on a kibbutz, saw the first kibbutz, went to a cemetary with a lot of Israeli pioneers and Zionists, saw the Jordan River, saw the Sea of the Galilee, etc.

jrusalem trip SUMMER 2008

we had our first trip during Ulpan- To beautiful Jerusalem! We went to the promenade (it was a bit cold), after that we went to the old city and had some breakfast. We toured around the Jewish quarter- the Cardo, the wall from the first temple period, the last place where the fighters of the Jewish quarter gathered before they surrendered and the southern excavations. We finished at the Kotel and went back to Beer- Sheva.

On an almost full moon we went hiking in the Negev. Some Israelies joined us. We had some tea, coffee and waffels or wafers or how ever you call them. We learned about the Nabetians, flintstone and the moon. Big thanks to Max and Joel which took some of these pictures.

There's a villiage built by and inhabited by students, a goat farm and a night hike in the desert. Of course, there's also the beach and the bus ride back to Be'er Sheva through Sderot.

orientation weekend, summer 2008

Your first weekend in Israel- We hiked in Ein Ovdat- It was hot! Then we went to Ben Gurion's grave and had an observation lookout. After that we ate lunch and headed to the Kibbutz. Pool, rest, kabbalt shabbat, getting to know each other, eat and again- sleep. We had a tour around the kibbutz and learned what a kibbutz is all about. We went back to Beer- Sheva after havdallah.

Our last trip was to the Golan heights where we hiked in Wadi Gilbun and Zavitan, kayked in the Jordan river, swam in the Kineret, learned about the second Aliya pioneers and looked over to Syria (and in the middle- rested, bought chocolate and had some end of semester "shpil").

Our second trip in the semester was to kibbutz Qetura! On our first day we had "desert solo" experience in "Kasui" duens, we had barbeque and we went to the the kibbutz's pub. On the second day we hiked in mount "Amir" and then went swimming in Eilat! We toured around the kibbutz, learned about kibbutz life, had some activities, swam in the pool, played volleyball... and ate great. Great weekend!

dead sea trip winter 2008

On Friday we hiked in the southern part of the Judean desert- "Peres wadi", after that we went for a swim in the dead sea (even though it was cold). On Saturday we hiked in "Arugot wadi"- part of Ein- Gedi nature reserve. We encounterd some hyrax, ibex and even a leopard (Stam!!).

We started at "Or" movement offices and learned about them. After that we drove to "Merhav am", a new settelment in the Negev. After that we drove to Yeruham, had some fun on the slides. We met Shlomo and had an activity in Yeruham. After that we went to "Naot" farm, ate cheese and finished our day.

MAKHTESH RAMON TRIP JAN. 2008

On Sunday- 20.1.2008 we went traveling and hiking in Mahtesh Ramon- We started in the visitior's center and learned about the formation of the Maktesh, what animals are in it and more. After that we ate Krembo (Moka..) and we hiked on "Mount Saharonim". We finished in Ein-Saharonim and saw ancient Nabatian building. We had lunch in "Beerot" camping site and headed back to Beer- Sheva.

Orientation weekd started in Ben-Gurions hut in kibbutz "Sde Boker", after that we hiked in Ein Ovdat and even saw ibex. We had lunch in Sde Boker college and visited Ben-Gurion's and his wife- Pola's graves. We had a lovely "Kabbalt Shabbat" in kibbutz "Mashabey Sade" and friday night dinner. We rested, chilled, got to know each other with various games and had our first weekend in Israel. Welcome!!

negev trip nov. 2007

The last OSP trip of the semester. On friday we drove to wadi Tzafit (after stopping in Dimona). We hiked in the wadi and went down in roaps and ladders. After that we road camels (some of them were a bit grumpy- like Craig and Marvin). After the camel ride we drove to the Maktesh and we reached "Henion Beerot"- the place were we slept in. We had a lovely Kabbalt Shabbat and a tasteful dinner. After dinner we chilled and went to watch the stars. On shabbat we had great breakfast and some of us went to a hike to "Mount Saharonim" in the maktesh. We came back, had lunch, chilled in the tent and watched an amazing sunset. After that we did havdallah and drove back to Beer-sheva. Never ate so much pitas in my life!! It was a great trip!! Thankyou guys.

eilat nov 2007

Our second trip to amazing Eilat!! On friday we stopped at an observation point (Mt. Hezkiyahu) overlooking Egypt (we even saw 2 Egyption soldiers). After that we climbed Mt. Zfahot where we had an amazing view to Eilat's bay (we heard some muic and chilled on the top of the world). After that we heard the story of Eilat conquering and even saw refugee kids from Sudan. We had a beautiful kabbalat Shabbat, dinner and then we went out to the "Three monkeys". On shabbat we chilled on the beach, toured around Eilat, did some shopping, made havdallah and headed back to Beer- Sheva. A-mazing weekend!

The first over night osp trip to the Karme and the Galile. We hiked from "Ein-Hod" to "Finger cave" on the first day, then we went to lunch in a druze village- Osafia. After that we drove to Tzfat and some of us went to synagogue. On Shabbat some of us went hiking in "Nahal Amud" and then we all met for a tour around Tzfat. Finally we did Havdallah to exit the Shabbat. Then, "HOME SWEET HOME" -Beer Sheva...
