History
Our first brewery tour of the trip - Anchor Brewing!!
If only. When was the last time you had a beer that cost half the price of a hot dog - and it was GOOD beer?
The line-up. We tried all but the small beer; the porter was my favorite.
This old guy taking the tour told me to take a picture of this sign because it was SO FUNNY. He pointed out the year to me and told me they did it that way on purpose. I apparently don't look too bright.
The Michael Jackson steam beer was brewed for Michael Jackson's 60th birthday (the beer writer, not the creepy singer). It was auctioned off at a beer auction and proceeds went to charity.
Mashtuns! Water & grain are heated up in these puppies, releasing enzymes & sugar. The grain is filtered out and the resulting liquid is fermented. (OK that's a grand oversimplification of the brewing process but you get the idea.)
Foam from making the wort.

Houses! I want one.
YAY Moylan's! We spent our Thursday lunch here - delicious beer and food and highly recommended. (In Novato, CA)
After Moylan's, we went to Lagunitas and took a brewery tour. We are amped - they're going to distributed to the KC area this winter. YEAH!
Bottling. I wish I'd had more time to play with my camera settings here; I'd have liked to get the sharpness in the background and the blur of the bottles in the foreground. Ah well.
Fermentation...
Casks for aging
Yes please.
They've grown so quickly that they had to move some of their fermenters outside.
Tank after tank after tank...
Friday, we made our way up the coast to Ft Bragg specifically for North Coast Brewing. The drive to/from the brewpub was amazingly beautiful and we couldn't have asked for better weather.
After lunch at North Coast, we stopped at Anderson Valley brewing in Boonville for another brewery tour and sampling of the brews.
