Kota Kinabalu - One of the main streets at Kinabalu
Padang Merdeka - Very near to town and it is also here we took the minivan to Kinabalu Park at $15 RM per person.
The gorgeous view outside the dvilla lodge near Kinabalu Park.
Balcony at Dvilla lodge
Our room at the lodge near the base camp. Basic facilities with hot water shower but the view outside the balcony is superb.
At the Timpohon gate, ready to start our climb. My dad and I, both fresh and ready to start.
The pathway to Laban Rata. Wide enough to run. That is why it is so many people climb this mountain.
Along the way up to Laban Rata. Very pleasant hike up the mountain.
One of the rest stops before reaching the mountain lodges for our rest. There is drinking water but it has not been treated. I did not want to carry water so I drank it all the way.
The cafe at Laban Rata. Food is not very good and expensive. But would I rather carry the food up or would I just fork out my $15 RM for the fried rice?
The view at Laban Rata
Pendant Lodge - the lodge reserved mainly for Via Ferrata climbers. Met Winson from Hong Kong and shared a guide up to the mountain. Surprisingly, we all stayed at the same hut as he was going to do the via ferrata route too.

Incredible view from the top of Mt Kinabalu. The weather was perfect for the 2 days that we climbed
Waiting for the sunrise
Malaysia's highest queue. People are all waiting their turn for the picture at the summit. Some are just enjoying the cold and the magnificent scenery on the top.
Winson at the top, taking pictures of the scenery
Sunrise at Kinabalu. Gorgeous view.
Pictures while descending the mountain.
Our mountain guide Johnny. Walking up the mountain was really a walk in the park for him.
Dad with a background view of one of the majestic rock formations at Mt Kinabalu
Winson and I somewhere near the beginning of our longer via ferrata route. There are a total of 3 routes. We took the Low's Peak summit route.
The view was fantastic but many a times I was too focused on clipping on the harness to the fixed cable.
The route is steep and at the edge of the rock face at times. However, with the harness everything was just fine.
Crossing one of the cable bridges along the way
Winson before he attempted this 3-cable bridge. Quite fun but would have been scary without the harness.
Near the end of the route.
Towards the end of the rope. Great fun but I was super tired by the end.
