The Ancient city of Ephesus

Ephesus was one of the greatest ancient cities. Owned by Persians, Greeks and Romans, it is now in Turkey. Ephesus is very famous for its library, which is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Marmaris, my first call to Turkey

Marmaris is a small turkish town in the south of Turkey. It is a nice and quite resort, with nice people, plenty of restaurants and good food. The beaches were offering nice water and the wheather was very nice, despite the fact that it was early October.

Pisa, Italy

After a short train ride from Livorno, I arrived in Pisa. It probably is anyone's dream to see and touch the leaning tower of Pisa. Well, it was one of my wishes. What I did not know was how lovely the city of Pisa is. Too bad I only had a few hours to see the streets and take the pictures. But I was very surprised to see how much the tower is actually leaning. I thought it was going to fall on my head. Look for yourselves!

Napoli by foot

I heard it on the news and I saw it on TV: Napoli is one of the dirtiest places in the world. Like always, I don't believe it until i see it. I saw it. Two minutes after I started walking on the busy boulevard someone threw a cigarette butt from a balcony. This is a normal thing, I found after that. But this time the cigarette butt landed in my shirt. And it was not completely extinguished! Not a nice way to start a day. The busy streets of the city soon became a burden for me. There are not many traffic lights and crossing the street is some sort of extreme sport. The motorbike riders can hit everything the car drivers let go. The cigarette butts are everywhere on the streets. It seems like everyone is a smoker here! I was warned before I went out not to go on any of the small, narrow streets, especially not to step in the Spanish Quarter. So there was not much left for me to do. Cannes, on the French riviera

I don't think I should tell you what and where Cannes is. It surely is the most famous resort on the French Riviera. Home of the Movie Festival and featured in so many movies and songs. Cannes is a very nice mixture of an old city, with narrow curved streets going everywhere. The old fort is guardiing from the hill. On the main boulevard, hundreds of terraces are get filled up with tourists, willing to enjoy a cup of coffee or a snack. The streets are full of tiny restaurants. I did not eat in one of them as I was rushing to see the city, but the smell of the food was driving me crazy. Cannes was a wonderful experience, worth to be lived!

Barcelona, the heart of Spanish Catalunya

I came to Barcelona with high expectations. I was here in a Saturday, so I was fortunate enough to see the city at its best. The streets were full of people, willing to enjoy this beautiful day. Also, there was a parade on La Rambla, the central boulevard of the city, where in a day like this everybody takes a walk. I enjoyed the endless labyrinth of narrow streets going everywhere. Funny enough, I found that people in Finland, Denmark and Germany were more friendly than the Spanish. But one can't have everything. There are a lot to say about Barcelona, but one thing is for sure: being there was a good experience. Just one little note: the narrow streets smell like urine and they are not very clean. Also, the people don't seem to care about how their houses look like, in terms of cleaniness and order.

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon proved to be much more than I initially thought. At first, I took a walk in the wrong direction and I went to a very poor neighbourhood, where people live in small cottages and have lots of stray dogs. But then I went downtown and I was able to discover the "other kind" of beauty of this city. It is a great city, with narrow, clean streets and with those yellow trams runing everywhere. Like everywhere in Europe, the public transportation system is very good here. Locals are nice and didn't get upset because I couldn't speak their language. But I observed the same carelessness like in Spain, when it comes to the tidiness of their homes.

Le Havre, the most famous French port

Le Havre is probably the main port of France. The city itself is a very interesting mixture of industrial city, with some fisherman village-like influence, old architecture and new buildings. I found it interesting and entertaining. see it for yourself!

Rostock, Germany

Near the german shore of the Baltic Sea lies the old city of Rostock. I went there in a week end and took these shots. Rostock is a very nice city, clean and peaceful. As it was part of the comunist Germany, the traces of the old regime are still visible here and there, but it was surely nice to be there and meet those people. I heard Germans are cold and not very friendly people, but after my visit here and in Warnemunde, now I am convinced of the contrary. All my respect!

Sankt Petersburg

These images were taken during my travel to Sankt Petersburg. This city was once the heart of Russia and this is pretty obvious everywhere. It is a nice city, but its potential is not fully developed. It is very hard to get there, as a Russian visa is probably the hardest to get in the world. People are still very arrogant, impolite and not welcoming at all. They probably didn't hear the news: USSR does not exist anymore! And it is very hard to find someone who speaks any other language than Russian. The shuttle driver almost killed us while racing another car in the city, after he passed on the red light three times... The city was beautiful indeed, but it did not make me feel welcomed.

Dover Castle, England

To make a short history of the Dover castle here would be too much. This place is so rich in history that you should read a book about it. Just across the Channel, from the castle I could see France. So, the castle has played a key role in England's history, being one of the most important strategic points of this country.

Walking in Amsterdam

This is in short the result of a walk in Amsterdam. I loved the city and the freedom it inspires. I have travelled all across the four winds but I have never felt like this before. The city itself is very beautiful and every small detail is carefully looked after. All the people looked happy, but this could be because almost every bar downtown and by the water sells marijuana and cannabis. Joint, powder, cannabis chocolate, biscuits, cookies, you name it! But no one seems to abuse it and I haven't seen any homeless people, beggars or just dirty! Everyone is Spick and Span and they all enjoy their unlimited freedom!

A short break in Helsinki

Here are the shots I took in s short tour in Helsinki. Unfortunatelly, it was more like a "preview". We were sitting in a bus and were told about the city. We only had three short stops to go and explore on ourselves. Next time I'll go on myself and I'll definitely get more images. Stay tuned!

Warnemunde, Germany

Warnemunde is a sea resort by the Batlic Sea, in Germany. It is a nice and cozy place, where apparently nothing happens. But the streets and beaches are full of people. I spent a day there, but the city invited me to endulge, not to take pictures. So this is all I've got.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Here it is my Danish experience! I found Copenhagen a city of a rare beauty. The buildings are very impressive, old and very well maintained. The people are wonderful, very kind and everyone speaks English, which is also a plus. But things are awfully expensive, so if you decide to go there perhaps you should get the stuff you need before your arrival there. I paid 4 US Dollars for a 500ml. bottle of sparkling water. And that was in a convenience store! But the city is sure worth all the money!

The Bolboci Lake and the Ialomita Cave and Monastery

The Bolboci Lake is a man made lake in the heart of Bucegi Mountains, in Romania. The lake is surrounded by a beautiful scenery and nearby there is the Ialomita Cave. The cave is "guarded" by a very old monastery, that burnt a few years back and it was reconstructed in 1996.

Vizcaya Gardens, Miami

Vizcaya Gardens and domain were built between 1914-1922 by the industrial tycoon james Deering. He traveled in Europe and tried to create a place like the ones he saw in Italy. Acapulco, Mexico

Acapulco is probably the most famous resort city on the Western Mexican Riviera. It is certainly not one of my favourites, but I managed to find some nice places here, too. The pictures here are taken around the city, at the fort, in the fort's museum and the stones are ancient stones carved by the ancient inhabitants. these stones can be found in a place called La Palma Sola.

The Maya City of Altun Ha

These shots were taken at the maya City of Altun Ha, in Belize in February 2003. At that time, I was still working on film. Now I look back and see I did a pretty good job in terms of quality and exposure, having said that I used to take each shot just once, no bracketing and second chances. I had to pay for the film, heheheee!
