Feminist Friday - Tesco - Piccadilly Circus

30 OBJECT activists stormed Tesco in Piccaddilly Circus dressed in pyjamas to protest against the sale of sexisl lads' mags next to ordinary magazines and newspapers. Tesco recently banned shoppers from wearing pyjamas in some of their stores because it is deemed offensive. OBJECT supporters conga'd through the store singing and chanting to say - 'what's more harmful, pyjamas or porn?'

Demand Change! Clause 14 stunt

Demand Change! supporters protest outside Parliament on the day of the vote in the Lords to criminalise the purchase of sex from a person who has been exploited. We urged Peers to 'Vote for women, not pimps and punters'. And they listened! This is the first time in UK law that the focus has been on the punter and the need to tackle demand for commercial sexual exploitation has been acknowledged. Well done everyone!!

Pimp Centre Plus

We protested outside Job Centre Plus and collected 200 letters in less than 2 hours demanding that the government stop sanctioning commercial sexual exploitation by advertising for prostitution, lap dancing and other sex industry jobs in Job Centre Plus

We sang our feminist Christmas carols in protest outside Spearmint Rhino's Xmas Party to strip the illusion that lap dancing is just harmless fun and to show that we will not let the sexual objectification and commodification of women continue as if it is normal and acceptable, that we OBJECT!!!

Leeds 16 Days of Acion Against Violence against Women

Object Leeds hit the High Street to raise awareness about the issue of violence against women. They handed out 400 flyers and badges and spoke to hundreds of women and men of all ages throughout the course of the day - a massive success!!!

Public Meeting in Parliament

Object and Fawcett organised a hugely successful Public Meeting to which 150 people attended in order to urge the Government to move quickly on plans to toughen the licensing of lap dancing clubs. Speakers included Dr Sasha Rakoff, Object; Dr Katherine Rake, Fawcett; Beatrix Campbell, WNC; Philip Kolvin, Licensing Barrister; Cross Party MPs, and a Local Government Association Rep.

Ten Minute Rule Bill

Roberta Blackman-Woods MP presented a Ten Minute Rule Bill in Parliament calling for lap dancing clubs to be recognised, licensed and regulated for what they are - Sex Encounter Establishments. The Bill went through to the second stage with no objections. Object set up our own cafe in Parliament Square equipped with a strip club pole in order to highlight the inadequate licensing laws which box lap dancing clubs into the same licensing cateogory as cafes.

Boris Protest

We protested outside City Hall after Boris Johnson was elected as London Mayor to call for Boris to join the dots between creating a safer London for all, tackling violece against women, and taking a stand against the mainstreaing of lap dancing clubs which promote and legitimise the attitudes which underpin violence against women by promoting the idea of women as sexual objects rather than real people.
