Grand Canyon
Experiencing the Grand Canyon was one of the most amazing things we have ever done! We started our hike into the canyon as the sun was rising around 5 am, and took our last steps out as the last ray of light disappeared around 8 pm. We descended 3260 ft / 994 m into the canyon, a hike of 4.4 mi/ 7.1 km, taking in the spectacular panoramic views from the ridge-line South Kaibab trail. We crossed a plateau in the canyon, hiking west about 4.6 mi / 6.6 on the Tonto Trail. It was flat, open, and beautiful— exposed and hot. We rested a few hours in the blessed shade at Indian Gardens before a 5.5 hour climb out of the canyon on the Bright Angel trail. The temperature at the rim when we started was barely above 50°F /10°C, and maxed at 118°F /48°C at Indian Gardens. We met very few people on the trails, it was mostly just us in the canyon. The scenery, colors and nature were breathtaking and changed along the trail. Wish my photos could do it justice. What a wonderful world!
