MPCC 2010 - Last day and travelling

Sorry it's taken so long to post the last pics, jet lag hit home! We said our goodbyes and left MPCC at around 8-15am, we travelled to Gerald Gentleman Power station at Sutherland where we were given a guided tour of the plant, due to the very high winds we were unable to view all of the areas.Then we went to Ole's Big Game lounge in Paxton were we enjoyed a fantastic lunch and 'Shot some pool'. We then drove to Lake McConaughay where we enjoyed the fantastic views as we were driven across the dam and had a guided tour of the visitor centre. The drive to Denver was slightly more enjoyable than from, due to the lack of snow, but the high winds did cause a problem to Dr Tubbs and Jan (our chauffeurs). The flight home was un-eventful, then the M25! Yes lots of traffic!! We arrived back at 18-10, as you can see, some of us slept on the the way home more than others. May I take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to view these pics and share with us our fantastic experience.

MPCC 2010 - Day 7 Goodbyes

Today we have been in class all day, we have all had hands on practical experiences in a variety of trade areas. This evening we have all given presentations on what we are taking with us back to the UK, we have all recieved certificates for the things we have learnt and as always the food was fantastic. Tommorow we are visiting Southerland Power Plant in the morning then after lunch at Ole's we are visiting Lake McConahay with a drive over the dam. From there we travel to Denver International Airport with our flight scheduled to depart at 20-00hrs MST. We are due back home in Scunthorpe at around 18-00hrs Weds (12-00 CST) I will endever to post tomorrows and Wednesdays picures on here when I get home.

MPCC 2010 - Day 6

The day started early for Glyn and Martin, they went to visit a timber framed house being constructed using the Canadian envelope system. Next stop was a visit to the 20th Century War Memorial, from there we went to Fort Cody, another tribute/museum to the legend Buffalo Bill Cody. After lunch we then had a guided tour of Union Pacific's Bailey Yard, the worlds largest train yard where 10,000 railway cars are handled each day on 2,850 acres of land. Up to the Golden Spike tower, from where one can get a panoramic view of the yard from 8 stories high. While the learners and Catherine were treated to a spot of Buffalo watching Martin and Glyn were given a guided tour of one of the up-market housing developments. To round the day of we all attended a Pot Luck evening were people brought American Cuisine for us all to enjoy, again as with all the other days the photos do not do the the day justice but please enjoy.

MPCC 2010 - Day 5

Today we learnt about the history and pre history of the Nebraskan Plains from pre-historic through to today. The day started with a visit to Dancing Leaf a reconstructed native American earthen lodge. There we were treated to a facinating over view of the history of the area and were shown lots of artifacts that have been found on the banks of Medicine Creek. Next stop was Scouts Rest Ranch and the home of Buffalo Bill, there we were shown around the house. On from there we went to watch the Colege's ladies Softball team in action, an impromptu game followed between NLC learners and some of the team. After a we went to the South Campus where we enjoyed a play based around 9/11. To round the day off we were all invited back to a member of staffs house for the best pie any of us have ever tasted, a massive thank you to Sherry for welcoming us into your home. MPCC 2010 - Day 4

Well what can I say about today, to coin a phrase "Its been totally awesome". We started the day in class, then this afternoon we went to visit a working ranch in the middle of the Nebraskan Sand Hills where we've had an excellent experience. We had home reared beef for tea along with Rocky Mountain Oysters, ask us what they are when we get back. Enjoy the pics they really dont do justice to the fantastic day we have had special thanks to Rusty and Rachel Kemp.

MPCC 2010 - Day 3

Well we've had another very busy day today, the day started early for Martin and Phil they went to a dawn Rotary meeting (7am start). We were then driven 70 miles to McCook where we had a guided tour of a hose production plant, from there we then drove a further 100miles to visit Wardcraft who specialise in constructing mudular timber frame buildings. On the way back to North Platte we stopped off at a "sports shop" boy was that an eye opener!! Enjoy the pics

MPCC 2010 - Day 2

Well what can I say, we've been treated like celebs, appeared on tv, interviewed by the local paper, had an fantastic warm welcome by everybody, been to a local Rotary lunch, taken for a spin in a massive utility truck and the college project car. To wrap it all up we visited the local Harley Davidson shop and sat on a few bikes!!!!!! Enjoy the pics.

We left NLC at 6am all bright and breezy, within 20mins some were already asleep!! After driving through a blizzard we arrived at North Platte at 11pm central time (4am uk time)
