I first answered the call for help on June 3, as The Sounds were looking for a pair of hands to help them promote the new album. The Sounds are on tour with Paramore and No Doubt. I've been a fan since I heard "Seven Days a Week" in 2004 playing on Northern Arizona University's K-JACK web radio stream. The great thing about this online radio station is that I lived in Washington, DC at that time, never having lived in Flagstaff!
The funny thing is that I answered the myspace bulletin, and yet they didn't know I was coming. So I waited about half an hour at will call to get a ticket inside (the lawn tix were sold out of course).
My mission, as I chose to accept it, was to pass out these tour booklets that showcase the band and the new album, Crossing the Rubicon. You can get the first single, "No One Sleeps When I'm Awake" from the-sounds.com
The photos that follow document some of the concertgoers I reached out to on behalf of The Sounds.
Thanks for showing these off ladies.
Haha Sounds attack mid-munch.
This is all prior to the opening set.
I got some people while they were standing in line at will call.
The Sounds are so good, it's criminal!
This girl could pretty much be a stand-in for lead singer Maja Ivarsson. I spotted them in the fan line after the set.
These Paramore fans were all for free music from a band that supports who they came to see.
The Sounds are on stage, and I'm out on the lawn.
This guy was fabulous. He started belting out to the Sounds' song "Hurt You" (of Geico commercial fame). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwWfU18boOI
I tried to have someone take my picture with him, and this was the best one :( I was singing along.
A good looking bunch of new converts.
The Sounds on stage.
These two asked me about the Geico commercial!
Following the Sounds' exit, the lady in peach told me that Crossing the Rubicon was going on her iPod!
I continued to pass out booklets during the Paramore set, taking advantage of the large contingent of fans who would support the opening act.
Look at this crowd.
I think the Sounds would agree that this shirt from H&M's Fashion Against AIDS line is so true! http://www.hm.com/us/faa#/faa2009/ Brought to you by Designers Against AIDS & their musician partners (this design by Estelle) ! http://www.designersagainstaids.com/
When you unfold the nifty booklet that tells you about the free download, it becomes a miniposter.
Me. Doing my thing.
More of the Lakewood crowd.
At 9pm, The Sounds were at the merch tent signing autographs for the fans, old and new. After passing out booklets, I became honorary fan photographer with everyone's cameras and iPhones.
I took the opportunity to snap photos when there were no other cameras for me to use in the moment.
Singer Maja Ivarsson said she's signed boobs, belts, shirts - and shoes - why not?
My work is done. I was the only local volunteer out there to handle the masses, and certainly after 45 minutes of taking fan/band photos at the tent... The Sounds knew me. I'll be seeing them again this fall when they headline, with their compliments.
