approaching the dunes at Merzouga
we are on our camels and heading for the dunes
The desert is at its best at sunset and sunrise. The colours then are spectacular, and the shadows created give the landscape definition.
the last palm trees we will see for awhile
the sun is very low
the camel train
Notice what my camel, on the right, is doing.
the sun sets over the High Atlas Mts in the distance
at our camp, in the tent - Lisa and Liana are drumming
smoking apple sheesha - no drugs
notice the teapot on the right - the every present mint tea
Ibrahim (left) and his brother were our hosts
a delicious tagine made by Ibrahim and eaten with fingers or scooped up with pieces of bread
Liana and Lisa waiting for the sun to come up
was this dragonfly dead or was it waiting for the air to warm up so it could go about it usual business?
the long awaiting sunrise has begun
animal tracks but haven't a clue what sort of animal would make these
more tracks
the sun is still very low in the sky, resulting in a beautiful softness
this grass is about 3' tall
a neighbouring camp
Ibrahim and my camel
the brothers goofing around
can you see Lisa talking to her camel, and can you see the reaction she is getting back?
our camp
Chaka Khan, my camel
Bob Marley is a young camel, and has a few things to learn, patience being one of them
Jimi Hendrix displaying the saddle, which was covered in blankets to make it even more comfortable
we three rode and the 3 guys walked
the shadows were great, but taking pics of them was difficult cause a camel ride is NOT smooth
Liana took this. Can you see her shadow as she takes the pic?
Lisa likes her shadow
You can't imagine how difficult it is to take a pic of someone behind you! So point the camera backwards and hope for the best.
Liana got some really nice shadow shots
i finally figure out how to get a pic of Lisa - wait until we turn a bit of a corner
I felt it was time for some exercise, so I dismounted
So I was given the rope to lead the camels.
LIana wanted to have a pic of a Turkish toilet, which was back at the brother's "office"
