Our kitty cat Maeby

We got out kitty cat Maeby in October 2007 at the Humane Society. She was 1-1/2 years old (they think), and the poor thing had been at the pound for almost a month. Despite being a stray, she is very loving and friendly.

Istanbul, Turkey

I went to a conference comparing the North Anatolian Fault in Turkey to the San Andreas Fault in Southern California held at Istanbul Technical University. We went on several field trips, and I also stayed in Istanbul after the conference with Susana, another grad student studying seismology, and her boyfriend Jorge. Turkish people are some of the friendliest people I have every met. I was worried they wouldn't like Americans, but I found they are far more friendly in Turkey, a Muslim country, than other countries in Europe I've been to.
