Rough Trade East with Ruth

Rough Trade began trading in 1976 at 202 Kensington Park Road, Notting Hill. Originally specialising in US and Jamaican imports, it soon became one of the leading outlets for the burgeoning punk scene, and subsequently a pilgrimage point for anyone buying or selling new DIY new wave music and fanzines.

Pubs, Pies and Pints@ The Old Bank of England Pub

The Old Bank of England is one of Fuller's Ale & Pie pubs and is situated in the former Law Courts' branch of the Bank of England. The opulent decor is breathtaking and the cellar includes the original steel bank doors. The island bar is the centrepiece of this fantastic pub but if you prefer to be outdoors you can enjoy a drink or bite to eat in the courtyard - you would hardly believe this was possible in the heart of London!

Party Night @ Movida

The Venue Mo*vida is just a couple of minutes’ walk from Oxford Circus tube station, and it’s easy to find if you follow the signs for the London Palladium. Hidden underneath one of the capital’s most famous theatres in dramatic arched vaults, the club is unmistakable once you spot the earpiece-wearing door staff and paparazzi hanging around the entrance in the hope of spotting a Z-lister.

Ruth's Soho Square Picnic

Ruth takes the students to Soho Square Gardens for a spring picnic...Some history... Originally built during the late 1670s the Square was originally called King's Square, for King Charles II. A statue of Charles II was carved by Danish sculptor Caius Gabriel Cibber in 1681 and placed at the center of the Square. The statue was removed from the square during 1875 was replaced by the present timbered structure, part tool-shed, part arbour and only returned during 1938. The current building is a rebuild that was carried out during the 1930's. The garden was first opened to the public in 1954. The current railings and gates were provided by the Soho Square Gardens Committee and the City of Westminster in 1959 A bench that commemorates the late singer Kirsty MacColl, who wrote the song "Soho Square" for her album Titanic Days was placed in the garden by her fans. The inscription on the bench reads: "One day I'll be waiting there / No empty bench in Soho Square".

St Patrick's with Rafael

Saint Patrick's Day (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig) is a yearly holiday celebrated on 17 March. It is named after Saint Patrick (circa AD 387–461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland. It began as a purely Catholic holiday and became an official feast day in the early 1600s. However, it has gradually become more of a secular celebration of Ireland's culture. Saint Patrick's feast day, as a kind of national day, was already being celebrated by the Irish in Europe in the ninth and tenth centuries. In later times he become more and more widely known as the patron of Ireland.

Tattershall Castle with Helen

The Tattershall Castle was built by W. Gray & Co. in 1934 and was a vital passenger link across the humbler estuary ferrying passengers across the stretch of treacherous water between Hull and New Holland. The paddle steamer made about eight trips a day carrying up to 1050 passengers in three compartments and on the deck. Apart from her role as a passenger vessel, the Tattershall Castle had space on board for cars and livestock. Sheep, pigs, cattle and horses could all be tethered or penned for the 40-minute crossing.
