circa 2003 before we aquired it
Arriving home after being purchased at the Emmett Swap Meet mid 2006. Note gap @ front of the door
1st day of shop, Henry J 101
Pretty bare
No uphostery or padding, firm on the bum
Not a good car for double dating
Rocker panel is concaved and doesn't have any bracing behind it
Out with the bad
In with the good
A poor patch with cancer
Looks like someone cut 'er too short
Add a patch
Originally the rear fender was removable, not any more
Smoothed and primered
The bracing behind panel makes it straight
More like it should be
Hard part done on the rockers
Drivers side is same as passenger side, this was cut out
Much straighter with bracing
Cut, weld, grind, fill, sand and primer
The effort was worth it
They tack welded the tail pan and fenders, I had no choice but to finish welding the fender seams
Can't get the tires on without unbolting the rear end and letting it drop down
The tail pan was shaped in a metal brake with a series of small bends
A section that was rusted out in the trunk area was cut out & a new piece welded in
Welding the fender seams
Several layers of body filler before it took shape
Good to see primer covering the ugliness
This looks like muscles to me
This body style is certainly unique
Lumpy, all over!
I have no idea how this roof got so uniformly dented
1st layer of filler
4th body filler application
Everything is rusted. Note angle iron support on tilt (hoky)
Bracing for hood was crooked, I cut it all apart & rewelded it
Mocked-up with bottom of fender taped on
Suspension removed
Rust & paint stripped
Old welds on firewall need to be ground off
Made roller for tilt to move forward 11/2 inches
Fabricated new radiator brackets
Halfway?
To make tilt move foreward I used motors from a Oldsmobile electric seat
Master cylinders mounted, brake lines bent with stainless steel braided hoses @ calipers
Firewall ground down & smoothed
New ball joints, A-arm bushings, bearings, seals, shocks
Fabbed up new motor mounts
New radiator, fan and rack & pinion
Painted and assembled
All kinds of peices
Not a pretty finish
Before, during (sandblasted) after (painted)
Lots of sandblasting
New brake calipers
The car sat in a field for two years with bare metal
Starting to buff the rust off
Many hours on rust removal
Inside of fenderwell, looking up
Starting to shine, finally
Rust removed
Looking at inside of tail pan, had to weld bracing to bottom of pan
Getting ready for paint
The pervious owner had a good design for floors and frame
Had to cut out cancer and patch
The bottom of the picture shows the bracing for rocker panel
I used rubberized undercoating on the inside of the fenderwells
More undercoating
Underside finished painted
No more rust. Rust was not my friend
Should be preserved for years
Note the 1" square tubing supporting the firewall
Welded plugs in tubing
Someone cut antenna in cowling
All better now
Brake lines ran
Wilwood calipers, Speedway brake hats and 12" rotors
New Strange axels, Strange ring & pinion (4:11) and Strange spool
Rust everywhere
Inside of trunk
