The smaller building is the old sbitar, where I go to work every day. The larger one is the new sbitar, which will, inshallah, be opened by the King sometime in the near future! My house (not my host family's house, but mine!) is right behind the old sbitar

The neighbors are building a house. They were more than happy to let me photograph it.
The foundations of the house are wide, flat stones. Then they begin building the walls using a mixture of mud, water, and sometimes straw. The frame is built, filled, and pounded down, then dried.
The builders and kids.
This is what they use to compact the adobe
The dirt they are using is actually from the last house that stood on this site, which they spent about two weeks knocking down. Mix it up with water, and build it anew.

Me, Nommmers, and Jeanie-Pants
This grasshopper was longer than my middle finger and scared the pants off of me on a hike I took recently. I tried to get something down next to it to show scale, but it jumped to the next mountain in one stunning bound before I could do anything about it.
