A tree, recently-fallen across the path. Note the bark knocked off by the impact and lying under the trunk.
Not much depth on those root systems.

Bluebird Lake and Ouzel Peak (and Steve)
Frozen falls
Steve, Mike, Rob sheltering from the wind at Bluebird Lake
Lark Pond and Pipit Lake are up on that shelf. The ridgeline is the Continental Divide.
Looking way out to the eastern plains from Bluebird Lake (12x zoom). White objects in the center might be in Longmont, Colorado.
Burn path down in the valley
Drilling / blasting hole. Remarkably Bluebird Lake once had a cement dam and the water went all the way to Longmont, Colorado.
Rob in a slippery spot on the way down.
Steve (looking like Mr. Incredible) near a large, freshly-toppled tree. The big root ball is marked by the shadow of a burned tree.
Cross-section of the downed tree.
