Here's what things look like before starting the HID conversion!
Another angle of where things begin.
Say goodbye to the old amp hungry, voltage killing incandescent bulbs of the 1940's and hello to low amperage, cool running, thousand hour bulb life HID systems.
Here is where the work begins.
Don't forget to use grommets.
Note the weather pack connectors that will connect to the ballast box.
Initial punch holes for the rivnut placement.
Now that is one cool rivnut tool!
Ballast box is a snug fit but workable with the PAR46 bulb.
Fitting the pilot side ballast box into position.
Co-pilot side ready for "the moment of truth"! Note the minimal blockage of the HID lens by the ballast box.
All covered up ready to go.
The moment of "truth" and of massive light without the massive heat and amperage draw!!!! You 12V systems folks should really give these HID lights some thought and if your plane is configured with a generator, well, I don't have to tell you what happens when taxing at night.
Even with the snug fit of the ballast box, the outward appearance is still acceptable, IMHO, but you be the judge.

Now that's one fine looking Bonanza! And guess what? He's not melting his plastic lenses or having an electrical brownout during taxi ops. Glen really likes being able to run BOTH of his wing lights now with minimal electrical stress and massive numbers of lumens!
