this started out as a video. it was called 'the escape.' something happened. sorry. but there are two other videos. working on uploading them to youtube, but success has thus far eluded me...
salt fields we saw on the first day of exploring kampot's surrounding areas by motorbike
woke up early enough one morning to catch the sunrise outside my room on the river.
and when i say 'outside' my room 'on' the river, i am being completely literal. ti stayed in a little hut/bungalow/room that is floating on the kampot bay river. it has three walls only. amazing.
how can you not be happy when this is what you see from your bed when you wake up?
the fisherman are, of course, up and at work before sunrise every day.
this is one of our guides (only one of whom was over the age of 18, and there were more of them than there were of us. many more.) who took us on a very challenging tour of some pretty cool caves. i had to take a photo of his shirt, which you cannot read so i will write it here. the three guns on the left are labeled 'afghanistan,' 'iraq,' and 'iran.' the one on the right says '...and the rest of the civilised world.'
scenes from day two of our motorbike adventure
these used to be rice paddies, now dried up.
wet rice paddies, currently being cultivated
joachim and steve, my motorbike adventure partners (yes, there are only two bikes. i rode on the back of steve's.)
view of the kampot bay river from my room, this time in the pm
