yet another mystery, or sort-of mystery. sure, there is garbage on the streets all over phnom penh. but a significant proportion (ok, maybe it's just that it's noticeable to me) of what would otherwise seem to be random refuse is, in fact, playing cards. so i suppose the explanation is that people do play cards in front of their homes and shops quite a bit. and they do tend to throw unwanted garbage straight onto the sidewalk, so... (and why not hold onto your deck if you know you are going to want to play again tomorrow?) but still. i see these *everywhere.* so i started taking photos. this album is a small sampling of the result (well, i've stopped taking photos. it gets old after a while, and the locals sure look at me funny!)
this planter turned garbage full of cards (and other trash, because clearly, as we've seen, cards are always trash) was actually the reason i wandered down all the side streets near where i was staying. the first time i saw it i was sans camera, so i was determined to find it again for a photo. for the city of discarded cards album, of course.
