Presentation of our new game Tosti! for the press and other interested parties at the 'Neuheitenschau'.
On arrival the empty booth looks quite, ehm, empty...
Let's get that booth looking a bit less empty. Thanks to Robert and Ruud (amongst others) it doesn't take all that long!
There you go; SPLLN booth version 1.0. A large part of it at least.
Our first visitor on opening day... My son Rens welcomes him.
And before long, Rens gets some genuine interest in both him and his game, Tosti!. We're off to a good start.
There's also a lot of interest for the two other games of which we are showing prototypes: SFIRS and Myriath. Here Hanan can be seen explaining SFIRS using the digital touchscreen version of the game.
We were asked to send in some pictures of Rens and Tosti! for use in a magazine. Here's Rens being all excited about it!
Lots of Tosti! games. We've had a thousand made in total.
SFIRS as it's meant to be played. On a great looking board with great looking pieces.
This is me playing SFIRS with a fellow game designer. He found SFIRS to be the best game at the convention. Now how's that for a comment! :-)
Spiel is a big convention and you need a few days to really explore everything it has to offer. This is exactly what our 'Black Magician' friend did together with his aunt. They stopped by repeatedly over the days for some relaxation with SFIRS and Myriath.
Two jurors of 'Spiel des Jahres' (Tom Werneck and Chris Mewes) also visited the Splln booth. I learned a lot about the workings of 'the (board)game industry' at the convention, also thanks to these two nice gentlemen. They informed me how to get Tosti! submitted to the 'Game of the year' contest and said I really should do so!
It's nice to see that Myriath appeals to both young and old. I intented SFIRS to be mainly for adults, Tosti! to be more for children, and Myriath to be for both.
Father and son playing Myriath. Hanan needed only about a minute to explain the rules and then they completely played the game by themselves!
Marlène playing a game of SFIRS with a visitor who has experience playing chess. A relaxed way of concentrating is what SFIRS is all about.
My son and daughter explaining how to play Tosti! to their niece. My goal with Tosti! was to create a game that children can play by themselves, making them understand in a fun and positive way that sharing and helping are essential (in life).
Mixing business with pleasure. Here I am discussing production possibilities with a company representative while some visitors are watching my daughter and her mother playing Tosti!.
After five fun and exciting days, SPIEL '08 comes to an end. I am proud of my games, happy with the interest we got (from both visitors and companies) and thrilled about what the future might bring for SPLLN. Thanks for watching! -Martijn
