Redhook Harbor, East End, St. Thomas, early morning while waiting for ferry to cross to St. John, It was Columbus Day, so these three boats were re-named.
I don't know if I like this effect or not. Compare to the next shot you see of this same scene, but the softness does have a nice watercolor effect.
Lucis Art enhanced of the harbor scene. I like this effect. The detail in the shadow and highlights to the clouds, water, even the mold on the pier are fantastic.
The entryway to Trunk Bay, St. John, USVI. We went snorkelling here, but I took this scene as you enter the beach through an opening in the trees. Lightened up the flora on the right-side with Capture NX. Then sharpened the scene. The water is really that beautiful.
The clouds with the palm tree against it... Shot all my pictures in JPEG fine with vivid exposure settings.... Saturation High, Sharpness hard, and Mode IIIa.
This papaya tree stood alone looking out over the water from St. John to another small island. But the clouds building and the diagonal they created fascinated me.
It was a little after noon, not dramatic light, but the old ruins of a sugar mill on St. John with the clouds as a backdrop make this composition worth viewing. Like the detail in the shadows that I was able to bring out, making good exposure all around.
Same sugar mill, but a different composition with the flowering tree branches. Used polarizer on all outdoor scenes, but they work best on North or South pointing shots, hence the deep blue of the sky.
Best light, about 20 minutes before sunrise at the hotel. The infinity pool was put to use as a reflection of the sunrise unfolding. I loved the deep blues and clouds. You can see some houses on St. John the distant island starting to come into light/view.
My wife hates this picture, but I like the strong detail. Although her face looks weathered, I like the sharpness of the hair, sunglasses, and the way the sun was shadowing her face.
A skyride takes you to Paradise Point high above Charlotte Amalie harbor. But the three gondolas coming down and the floral background were my subject. Lucis art again brought out sharpness and detail in the shadows.
You saw the pool sunrise earlier, now see how light can change in 30 minutes... This was taken 30 minutes later, same morning sunrise. But the clouds were so illuminated that I continued to snap photos for about 10 minutes. This is a HDR composite of 4 of those shots.
The classic postcard shot! It was a beautiful day on St. John, USVI. The road winds around the island with overlooks to most bays along the way.
As the road climbs out of Cruz Bay, St. John, USVI, I caught this harbor view. The boats in the water were all colorful, and I thought the watercolor effect accented this.
