Rewanui in 1983

Photos taken on a ride to up the Rewanui Branch from Greymouth in 1983. The train had a carriage attached as it transported miners who lived in Greymouth.

Day 4 saw the start of the steam hauled part of the tour behind Ab663. A number of photo runs were held as we headed south between Picton and Kaikoura. Passengers had the choice of traveling on the train or chasing in the tour coach.

2009 Tour Day 2 & 3

Day 2 saw us head south from Auckland to Wellington with our carriages attached to the Overlander service. The weather wasn't the best but the scenery was still great. Day 3 and the morning was spent in Wellington with some going to the Fell Museum in Featherston and some visiting the Mainline Steam Depot in Plimmerton before taking the afternoon InterIslander ferry to Picton where we stayed overnight in Blenheim.

Our annual tour. Day one we visited the Glenbrook Vintage Railway where we had chartered a mixed train hauled by Ww644. The sun stayed out and we got some nice photos

Midland Mountaineer 2009

Mainline Steam's Midland Mountaineer Excursion from Christchurch to Greymouth and return on the 5th and 6th September 2009. Unfortunately our KiwiRail steam driver took ill on Sunday morning and with no other replacement available we decided to put a diesel on the front to haul the train back to Christchurch.

GMAM

The biggest locomotive that Mainline Steam owns is the GMAM Garratt. I arrived in the country in 1996 from South Africa and in September 1996 we steam steamed it for an Open Day at the Parnell Depot. It is currently stored awaiting full restoration.
