This is Adventurer, when I first spotted him today he was acting shy at first, as usual. Stupid *!#@$ Grass!
Adventurer is a pretty good bear, but of course he is still young and boars tend to change their mindsets once they become adults. I named him Adventurer because he was always the cub that strayed away from his momma and acted far more independant than his sibling (who I called Timid, and haven't seen since 'the departure' from their mother in 2009)
He picks up a scent
I noticed the small dark brushpile (to the right) that he seemed to be focusing on but I had no idea from my location that a new Fawn was laying next to it.
At this point he realizes his opportunity
Quick as a flash, his jaws grab tightly onto the Fawn and it begins to hollar loudly
He lifts his head up and violently shakes the Fawn back and forth.
A terrible photo (motion blur) - he jumps up onto the base of a nearby tree and huffs at me (as if I really want to take his meal away from him!)
Within seconds the Fawn is motionless
Another terrible photo - he takes off running with the mangled Fawn dangling from his mouth. And of course, I followed.
This angle shows the Fawn's tail
He drops the lifeless Fawn from his jaws
He gives me the 'warning eye' before he begins his feast :-)
He calms down as he realizes that I am not a threat to his kill.
Feast time
A chunk of meat hanging from his mouth as he chews
Here he is ripping off the Fawn's hide
Errgghh...hairball!
In no time at all, the Fawn's carcass is reduced to a small pile of hide and guts
