Parish Pumpkin Decorating & Pizza Party

The Sunday School hosted a pumpkin decorating event for the Parish. About 25 kids were in attendance, and some great pumpkins were created!

Youth Mission Trip to NYC

10 youth and 5 adults participated in our annual mission trip. We stayed overnite at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Flatbush, Brooklyn, then helped Epiphany Lutheran Church in the Bronx with some recovery work after their fire 2 months ago.

World Hunger/Jesus Rocks Joint Worship Service

The 3 congregations of our Parish gathered for a special service. We experienced the Jesus Rocks liturgy (sung to Beatles' tunes); we kicked-off our ELCA World Hunger Campaign, and our Third Graders received Bibles from the Parish. All this was followed by a wonderful luncheon.

Parish Youth Lock-In

9 youth from our Parish participated in this year's lock-in. We played some games, did a lesson on how Jesus can help us with the many temptations we face in life, ate pizza and drank root beer floats, and stayed up most the night (although everyone did sleep a little!).

Youth and their parents participated in an evening of talking to one another about Family Rules. This included some fun role playing in which the youth took on the roles of the parents and the parents of the youth!

1st Sunday in Advent/Santa Lucia Procession

A special service for the beginning of Advent was developed by Joyce Fiore, AIM, which included a Santa Lucia Procession, a part of Scandinavian culture. Many parishioners, from children through adults, participated in the service. The highlight was the 9 female youth who were a part of the Santa Lucia procession. A wonderful service!!

Jeremy Hughes' Eagle Scout Court of Honor

Jeremy, a member of St. John's, Manorton, became an Eagle Scout on Veteran's Day. His Eagle Scout project was making a Prayer Garden for the congregation (see earlier photo album).

Starve Hunger - 30 Hour Famine

Approximately 20 youth went without food for 30 hours to raise money for world-wide hunger issues and local food pantries. This event was held at the Clermont Bible Church and sponsored by Palatine Area Ministries (PAM). Over $1400 was raised!

The Church Councils of our Parish were invited for a 2 day retreat to discuss leadership skills. This event was led by the Rev. Chuck Schwartz and held at the Oneness in Peace Center in Germantown.

Blessing of the Animals

Between 60-75 people braved a cool, brisk morning to bring their animals and pets to St. John's, Manorton for the first ever Blessing of the Animals! This event was sponsored by the Parish. A good time was had by all!

Youth & Parish Angel Dinner

Our Parish matches adults (Parish Angels) to the youth in grades 6-12 to create a "pen pal" relationship in which the adult corresponds to the youth once a month with words of encouragement. The Parish Angels also keep their youth in prayer. Occasionally the Parish schedules events for the youth and their Angel to interact in person. This evening was a wonderful event!!

Youth Mission Trip to NYC

Youth and Adults from St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Valatie and Christ Lutheran Church in Germantown spend part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday in NYC, staying overnight at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Flatbush, Brooklyn, and then visiting the Coler-Goldwater Hospital on Roosevelt Island.

Family Christmas Activity

We gathered to learn about St. Nicholas as a Giver and how God is a Giver of the baby Jesus, then we practiced Giving by making gift bags for the residents of the Livingston Hills Nursing Home. We also enjoyed a potluck dinner and a visit from Santa Claus. A fun evening!!
