Etched in stone, no less!
In a large teleporter room inside the Alzadaal Undersea Ruins. Redshift, a friend of mine going way back to the earliest days of FFXI's North American release, was helping me get my Staging Points unlocked for easier (and necessary) transportation later in xp or merit parties, etc. Seems he was correcting me on something here, too :-p.
Fighting a named Yagudo in Campaign Battle. Anytime you see an enemy with a mohawk, wearing a necklace strung with skulls, you know it's a badass. And he was pretty badass.
A view of the murky Ilrusi Atoll. It's basically a ship graveyard, crawling with undead and all sorts of nastiness.
Another view of Ilrusi Atoll. I'm invisible running through there because everything would have pretty much destroyed me... Like that Merrow over there. Was discussing with Redshift the fact that Sneak and Invis seem to fade quick when you need them, but last forever when you don't.
Running through Korroloka Tunnel, on the way to the Altepa Desert with an in game friend, McNasty. They've since moved to another server :-/
This has all the makings of a deodorant commercial. Three Lamia during an introductory cut-scene to a Besieged in Al Zhabi. The Undead Swarm were attacking. I hate the Undead Swarm.
The log of my fight against Maat as Dragoon for "Shattering Stars", AKA "Genkai 5". I beat him on my 3rd try. Not bad at all. I would love to know how someone beat that fight in 43 seconds O.o. The pre-fight preparation alone took me longer than that.
A run through the creepy and very other-worldly Promyvion Dem. The Promyvions are some of the more bizarre environments in the game.
Fighting one of the many weird creatures to be found in Promyvion.
The small oasis village of Rabao, out in the middle of the Altepa Desert.
Leveling up on Samurai. This Goblin Gambler was about to push me up to level 19. I've long since gotten Samurai to the sub-job cap of 37. I'll eventually take it to 75.
A purdy evening view of a waterfall.
Another purdy view of a waterfall, only this time at sunrise.
Running through Pashow Marshlands as it appeared in the past (via the Wings of The Goddess expansion). Much more vegetation in the past, and those towers aren't there in present day Vana'diel.
A very misty Pashow Marshlands [S]. I was running toward what was hopefully an active Campaign Battle.
Fighting a Yagudo at sunset in East Sarutabaruta. I was just starting out on leveling Samurai and was at least level 7 (judging by the Leather Armor).
A view of the dense jungle areas of the Elshimo Regions. This was taken at a common camp spot in Yhoator Jungle, or "the second jungle" as many refer to it.
Leveling Samurai at a common camp spot in Yuhtunga Jungle, not far from the entrance to Khazam. I would have been around level 25 or 26 here.
Running through Yuhtunga Jungle on the way to Khazam; probably heading back from a party in Yhoator.
About to fight the 3 Anticans for Zilart Mission 6. This was an interesting fight and led to a very cool cut-scene, of which I have a screenshot elsewhere in this album.
CRAB BATTLE!!
OMG! MY HEAD!
Just read the chat log :D. 1 for 3, on an item with a 5.5% drop rate. Was my second attempt to camp Mee Deggi. The Kotes dropped on the first kill. That drop saved me about 600k gil.
Shan working on her 2nd career: Monk - the job that beats the ever-loving crap out of stuff... and does it well.
This thing beat the crap out of me. Repeatedly. I didn't even bother getting up after a point. Fun Campaign Battle though :)
First meeting with the "Regal Feline" (aka Cait Sith) during one of the opening cut-scenes for Wings of The Goddess
Playing with a named Gigas during a Campaign Battle in Windurst Waters.
Saddled up with my chocobo in the beautiful and atmospheric Sanctuary of Zi'tah
Victory shot for my first time in Ru'Aun Gardens (aka “Sky”). About damn time!
Looking down at the clouds. This is why it's called “Sky” (aside from being easier to say than Ru'Aun Gardens).
Trees inside a tree... Inside the “Boyahda Tree”. Trying to find my way to Pyro and Yoshi without a map ><.
Having a chat with Raogrimm, aka “Shadow Lord”, aka “Dynamis Lord”. He's in his normal "non 20 foot tall demon" form here. All that “almost destroying the world” stuff aside, pretty nice guy... for a Galka.
In Xarcabard, running up snowy slopes wrapped in aurora borealis. Castle Zvahl Baileys is silhouetted in the background. (who comes up with these names?)
Preparing to fight Golden-Tongued Culberry inside the multi-floored and maze-like Pso'Xja. Ryuke gives some very smart tactical advice in the chat log. This is a really cool area.
After the fight, I review the winning strategy I used to help take Culberry down. Hope they were taking notes!
Shanree The Desert Nomad!! Well not really.
Riding through a misty Sanctuary of Zi'tah, one of the more atmospheric areas in the game.
Due to their cranky demeanor and penchant for obsessive licking, Doomed Pilgrims do not make good pets.
Scenic view of Yuhtunga Jungle. I was standing on the edge of a very high cliff here.
Pyrokity in superior Dragoon Relic Armor as compared to my not-so-superior Dragoon Artifact Armor... and what's that Taru looking at?! >:O
Running through volcanic tunnels during an Assault run.
Lovely night for a ride Mr. Dark Rider. Note: Dark Rider is a "raid-boss" type mob that just wanders around certain areas at random. He won't mess with you unless you mess with him first. If you do and aren't prepared... well, at least it's a quick trip back to town :). The full-height character you can sorta see behind him can stand completely beneath the horse.
Homam Armor. I Want.
Woot! Showing off my first piece of Relic Dragoon armor... the Wyrm Brais.
Dynamis Bastok Fun! I so want that wyvern with the red eyes.
Mothra attacks Al Zhabi! Where's Gojira when you need him?!
First-person view of one of the dozen or so times Pyrokity warped me back to my home point, which was about 10' to my left in this shot. He'd just learned the "Warp II" spell and wanted to use it on someone. Repeatedly. This is what happens when a melee focused player decides to level a mage job and learns a nifty spell. Kitsumi looks on, probably wondering what the hell Pyro's deal was...
My good friend Kitsumi in her White Mage pajamas.... err... I mean Artifact Robes. This is one of about 3958472345459845 full sets of gear she somehow manages to carry on her at all times.
Having fun with a Mamool Ja in Besieged as a Hydra squashes some unfortunate dude in the background.
Najelith addresses the combatants after a victory in Besieged
Sasavi and a much larger dragon have a stare-down during a Campaign Battle in Windurst Waters. Even though the dragon was on our side, I suggested we "let the dragon win." Learned that from Star Wars, I did!
Down goes Shadowhorn! More fun during a Campaign Battle in W. Waters.
Earning my next rank and medal in Campaign.
Puks suck!! Okay well, they're actually kinda fun to fight. They have this really cool AOE knock-back effect.
Ding! Level 75 Dragoon at last!
Having reached 75 and getting a healthy buffer, time to start meriting up!
Running through the very cool Ilrusi Atoll - a creepy, murky, haunted ship graveyard - during an Assault run.
The strange-but-cool looking Leujaoam Sanctum, during another Assault run.
Ahhh the ever pleasant and always eloquent Naja Salaheem. My sarcasm really doesn't convey well in text.
Posing (sorta) with the local wildlife during my first Nyzul Isle run (we made it to the 4th floor... only 96 to go!)
On the left we have your typical Poroggo... on the right, Blackhalo demonstrates what happens when you piss off said Poroggo.
Room With A View inside the Alzadaal Undersea Ruins.
The opposition for my first attempt at Einherjar. Some scorpions, a swarm of Poroggos and a Behemoth. Walk in the park! >.>
Scorpions killed, we begin fighting the Poroggo swarm... It all went downhill from here.
What happens when you piss off a swarm of Poroggos. My comment in the chat log pretty much sums it up.
Hey... at least I wasn't the only one eating dirt.
Running through the very maze-like Toraimorai Canal to help a friend with a fight for one of their Black Mage Artifact pieces. Fun place! No, really! :-p
The beginning of our Dynamis San d'Oria run. Look at them all lined up to welcome us! >.>;
Okay, so they weren't lined up to welcome us. No matter. We treated them no differently. (Dynamis San d'Oria)
This was about to end very badly ... (Dynamis San d'Oria)
See? Told you it was going to end badly. This wasn't a total wipe. Some managed to survive and get us all back up to continue on. (more Dynamis San d'Oria)
Well, despite all the death and mayhem, we got the "Win" for Dynamis San d'Oria. We decided to farm for the remaining time. Here we are in our "Post-Victory Wipe". No Relic boots dropped, but... they will eventually.
Passing some time in Windurst Woods
Hidden among the weeds in some remote corner the Jungle
Tonberry Death x 3
Part of a typically cool cut-scene from the Rise of The Zilart storyline, after having beaten ZM6 (the three Anticans you'll see elsewhere in this album)
A brief, pre-battle cut-scene from the Wings of The Goddess storyline. Even 20 years in the past, a much younger Ajido-Marujido gets himself into trouble. You then get to save him! An example of the depth of character development typical in FFXI.
Mithra Chieftaness of present-day Windurst, Perih Vashai (left). Here she's not yet blinded and still kickin' ass during the Crystal War, in a cutscene from WoTG. Going through the WoTG missions is kinda like watching Episodes I-III of Star Wars... except they don't suck.
Taking a brief rest between Campaign Battles in Rolanberry Fields.
Ahhh good ol' Hundredfist... Tough dude. Cool armor. Hits pretty hard. More fun during a Campaign Battle in Rolanberry Fields.
Just a really cool sunset in W. Sarutabaruta. (The FFXI = WoW comment was sarcasm by the way. I'd been telling Xyphon about someone saying FFXI was a WoW clone... We had a good laugh).
The 2nd of 3 "Victory Shots" I've been waiting to take. This one is the view from Lufaise Meadows, overlooking the location from the opening and closing scenes of FFXI's opening cinematic. The first was 'Sky', and all that's left now is 'Sea'.
Hello!
"Wonder what the street value of this rock would be..." During a cut-scene in Chains of Promathia.
Deep blue/green lake in Lufaise Meadows. Quite scenic.
Standing on a bridge in Lufaise Meadows, looking at the river below.
Massive waterfalls in Misereaux Coast. Really have to see this "in person" and in motion to appreciate it. Quite the sight.
Running through the very bleak Promyvion Dem
Winding through the remnants of what looks like an old cemetery being decayed by the 'Emptiness', in Promyvion Holla.
A Seether in Promyvion Holla. Can I keep him, ma?
The 'Wreaker', the final boss in Promyvion Holla, waiting to be killed. This one liked to spawn offspring in the middle of the fight. Nothing like being smacked around by a big ugly thing and its equally ugly children at the same time.
The very long legs of the final boss in Promyvion Mea. This thing used its legs for a wicked AOE/knock-back attack.
Two of three Taru wondering where I came from.... Right before they robbed me. -.-
Having just beaten Shiva Prime to get my Shiva's Claws.
Zabahf putting Tehf in her place during a quest cut-scene in Whitegate.
A recently defeated Shadow Lord is still in denial... You got pwned, beeyotch! ... Okay I didn't really just say that, did I?
The title screen for the mini-expansion, "A Crystalline Prophecy", during the intro cut-scene.
In Dynamis Windurst... and actually not dead! (don't worry, we wiped later)
Having just beaten Leviathan Prime... My first real summon (besides Carbuncle, of course).
Passing through a large room in Temple of Uggalipeh on the way to fight Leviathan Prime. A very cool, very dangerous place.
A wallpaper I made out of a nice screenshot in Lufaise Meadows
During a cut-scene for the Dragoon quest.
Healing up with my wyvern companion, Sasavi at the beginning of my loooong career as a Dragoon.
Finral helping me defeat the Dragon for my Dragoon quest.
Keelo!! A real good friend of mine, and my former "Monk Mentor" helping me through my Magicite missions. He don't play anymore :-/
Does this really need a description?
One of the few times I was able to capture the Rank-Up animation.
A nice evening view from the falls at Misereaux Coast
The infamous Minotaur fight.... He was *slightly* outnumbered.
A pre-fight shot of our CoP group. We had some extras for the Minotaur fight.
The psychotic but oddly likable Shantotto in her signature "evil laugh" pose.
Mawwww... Can we keep him?
