Joust at Loevestein Castle

Knights of 'Stichting HEI' (http://www.stichtinghei.nl/index-en.html) gathered for a joust at Loevestein. Other Medieval groups also presented themselves, like the swordfighting group 'Noorderwind' and the group 'Meyden van Loevestein".

EVO special task force :D

During the Napoleonic event EVO the soldiers of the 7th of Line were given a special task... rumour had it that a suspicious person was hiding in the dixies.... so they were send out to clear the dixies of this danger :D

EVO 2011

Pictures of the Sunday at EVO. It was the first NAN (Dutch Napoleonic Association) event without public. It was a splendid weekend ! The weather wasn't always good, but the surroundings were great for an event like this. People were great and the whole sphere was marvellous.

Craonne, le 5-6 Mars 2011

Craonne, a small village in Aisne, France. Here, in 1814, Napoleon won a battle against the Russians and Prussians who were under the command of General Blücher. Napoleonic re-enactmentgroups from France and Belgium commemorated this fact this weekend. For me it was the first time I visited this place and I was very much impressed by the beauty of the countryside (large open fields, hillsides) and the presence of the remains of the fights of 1917, when French troops had to storm the hill to fight the Germans... it was also the first time I was on a place where the shell craters of WW1 are still part of the countryside... although it is not possible to imagine what it must have been like for the soldiers in 1917, it still impressed me much. So in this album you find not only pictures of the Napoleonic re-enactment, but also of the sightseeing of WW1 sites.

Loevestein Winterbivak 2011

The Winterbivouac of the NAN was back at its old place at Loevestein Castle. The weather was not too bad on Saturday, but the Sunday it was dreadfull. Lots of rain. So no sunny pictures. Furthermore one of the lenses of my camera stopped working well on Saturdaymorning... it could no longer focus in the distance. I was lucky to have my telelens with me which I used for the rest of the weekend. Because of the poor light some pictures are still not in focus, but that is due to me not being able to hold the camera quite still in the cold wet weather :)

Loevestein

This weekend the troops of the 85ème de Ligne and the 92nd Gordon Highlanders occupied the castlegrounds of Loevestein. In the afternoon there was a little skirmish in which the Gordons tried to get hold of the castle... unfortunately being outnumbered they had to surrender...

Wavre

The battle at Wavre is not known well for it was fought at the same time as Waterloo. For the second time some re-enactors try to bring this forgotten battle alive again. It has been a lovely weekend. It was warm... very sunny... and very relaxed. The location was great. The Allied bivouac was at a nice field, and the battlefield was right next to it. The French bivouac was about 500 m. away in the garden of an old mansion. All and all an event which was very worthwhile.

French bivouac at Waterloo

Exactly 195 years ago the battle of Waterloo caused the downfall of Napoleon. This year about 2500 re-enactors came to Waterloo to re-enact the battle. Because I took part in the battle at Plancenoit and only stayed for the Saturday I do not have pictures of the battle itself, but for those who would like to see some bivouac photos and some photos taken during one of the drills, this album might be interesting enough to browse through...

Fort Sabina 2009

It was a nice relaxed weekend at Fort Sabina in Willemstad. The weather of Saturday was not that great, it rained quite a bit, but on Sunday it was fine weather to take pictures. Again I have only pictures of some of the people and bivouac...

Veere 1809

In the small town Veere on Walcheren, the landing of British troops in 1809 was commemorated. A very unique event which brought hundreds of re-enactors from Europe together. Also the local people took part of this event. Dressed in costumes and making the town look like it was in 1809. It has been a great weekend ! (a thank you to Bas de Groot in helping me out with the names of the British units)

Dorstadt 2009

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Braunschweiger, a multiperiod event was organised in the lovely town Dorstadt. Near a beautiful mansion the bivoaucs of the various era's were build, It was a walk through history, from the Romans to WW2.

Austerlitz (NL) 2008

At last a Napoleonic weekend at the Pyramid of Austerlitz in the Dutch province Utrecht. On this historical site we had a small bivouac with some manoeuvres on the sandy fields nearby. A small, but nice event with plenty of time to have a chat with old friends.

Oudenaarde 2008

Great event at Oudenaarde where the battle of 1708 was re-enacted by groups from throughout Europe. Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, England, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain and I do hope I didn't forget anybody here. All was very well organised, and many re-enactor have already expressed their hopes that next year we might have an event at Malplaquet of the same level as this one.

Archeon 2008

It started as a rainy day in "het Archeon", fortunately in the afternoon the sun came out. In this theme park you can walk throughout the ages from the pre-historical times up to the middle ages. People of HEI, a Dutch historical group specialised in the late Middle ages showed the public their skills on horseback.
