Enjoy the outdoors in comfort under our communal shaded eco-kitchen & lounge. Plenty of seating & counter space for all to share!
How do you build an environmentally friendly shower? Check out our volcano-inspired outdoor shower built from our own lava rock!
The flushing compost toilet is built 'green' with bamboo and lava rock.
Cook up a great meal on the communal charcoal grill built from our lava rock.
Our new home-made Eco Bocce Ball court is quite a hit! We use coconuts for the balls & the court is made from dirt, lava rock, & dead ohia tree branches.
The communal area is a large open space great for socializing or relaxing. It also has our Lava-inspired outdoor shower, flushing compost toilet, lava rock grill, a picnic table, coconut bocce ball court, & hammock.
We call this "Eco-Gaming" - able to play the video game Rock Band with power from the sun!
Our eco-communal kitchen has a small fridge, gas cooktop, large sink, running water, coffee maker, solar powered electrical outlet, compost bin, recycling, & plenty of pots, pans, cups, plates, & utensils that guests can borrow.
Our "Lova Da Compost" composting system allows guests to put biodegradable kitchen trash into a bin that is later moved to our main compost pile. We are creating organic gardening soil from trash & saving space in Hawaii's landfills.
Belinda from Boston, MA enjoys chill'n in the communal hammock under a beautiful ohia tree.
Enjoy bathing outside in the Hawaii sun! You'll never want an inside shower again!
You've never seen a shower this spacious, open, & in touch with nature! It has 2 seats & a sink inside.
Can you count how many rocks it took to build this shower?
Our rainwater catchment tank provides all our water needs (& isn't it beautiful in the Hawaiian sunset?). Water conservation is key & we try to educate guests with creative & fun ways to reduce water use - ever heard of 'sharing a shower' with your significant other?
Joey & Sarah are participating in the 'Share a Shower' program - mandatory for newlyweds like them! (Don't worry, they are standing on the shower seat now so actually have more privacy while showering.)
Rufus the Rainbow VW Bus was saved from the dump and transformed into our solar power station. Ever heard of a recycled solar panel mount before?
Rufus - before the transformation! This proves you can recycle anything if you're creative!
Our flushing compost toilet sign aka "The Lavatory."
I've never seen a flushing compost toilet as beautiful & spacious as this one!
The toilet has an electrical hookup to our solar system (with our wireless Internet antennae plugged in) plus uses biodegradable toilet paper & natural decorations. To save water, we encourage guests to "Let it mellow if it's yellow, flush it down when it's brown!"
Hillary the Hula Bus is our office, supply room, & travel resource center. Any guest can also use her picnic table for outstanding views of South Point & the ocean around it!
Hillary is our eco-solution to an office! She is green after all...
Guests can help themselves to supplies & information inside Hillary. If you are doing your own cleaning, you will find everything you need here.
Clean linens are set up for guests in the back of Hillary. Please help yourself to what you need if you are paying for cleaning/linen services.
Internet-from-a-tree is our solution to high speed wireless internet for the whole property (and it works GREAT!).
Growing a palm tree from a coconut - an example of our organic gardening efforts!
We saved the tops of pineapples from the market that we ate, soaked them in water until they rooted, & hopefully will have organic Lova Lava Pineapple treats for guests in the near future!
We are recycling guest grey water (the water that drains from our shower & sink) to irrigate these young banana trees & pineapple plants. Banana trees are known for needing a LOT of water so otherwise they would be too expensive & water demanding to plant on our property.
We call this tree our 'future house' since wine bottles used on the property are saved here. These bottles will be part of the building structure of our future "earthship" eco-house built from recycled materials! Keep drink'n! :)
A neighborhood & guest pot-luck dinner at Lova Lava Land.
We try to also make organic signs. Our parking sign is made from a fallen ohia tree log & lava rock off the property.
Early morning rainbow over our commone area starts the Hawaiian day off right!!
