Base mock-up for the "witch stirring cauldron" prop
Base mock-up for the "witch stirring cauldron" prop... placed plastic cauldron on 4x4 timber to determine proper positioning.
Base constructed for the "witch stirring cauldron" prop... placed plastic cauldron on 4x4 timber to determine proper positioning. The 4x4 gives it enough height to add some firewood and lighting later for the simulated wood fire gag.
My latest acquistion... free floor speakers! A neighbor kindly donated them to the cause. Zenith Allego speakers and they put out some good sound. Good old 1970's engineering! Expect to pay between $40 to $70 for a decent set of used speakers (craigslist).
So the design idea is this: a standing witch figure prop, stirring her cauldron and hiding a big stereo speaker under her skirt.
Not only are these speakers big, they are HEAVY!
Several beers gave themselves to the prop design and construction cause... and lubricated the innovation processing! :)
A piece of scrap 2x6 lumber and some angle brackets make up the motor mount. I wanted the motor to not be permanently mounted to the prop, for easy servicing or replacement in the future.
I used a rafter tie plate for the crank arm, and a u-bolt piece of hardware intended for steel cables to affix the crank arm to the motor shaft. A hack but surprisingly effective!
