Peace Poster Photos

The Lion International Peace Poster Contest is an International contest that encourages children, ages 11-13, to creatively express what peace means to them. The contest allow children to share their unique image of peace with others, so that we may all have a greater tolerance and international understanding. This years theme was "The Power of Peace". Our District alone had 550+ children participating in various contest.

2009 Sports Extravaganza

2009 Sports Extravaganza, October 23-24, at Irving Nimitz High School. Athletic events for blind and handicapped youth, ages 4-21, Sponsored by Region 10 of the TEA and the Lions of District 2-X1 and 2-E2. October 24th was a beautiful day with Opening Ceremonies, a Proclamation from Irving Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Rose Cannaday, a Quilt of all 10 T Shirts from the Previous Sports Extravaganzas made by PDG Julia Johnson and then competition, Awards, lunch and a truly fun and successful day!

Lions International President's Leadership Medal

Oak Cliff Lions Past President Rich Buickerood, left, received the Lions International President's Leadership Medal at the August 12th Club Meeting from Lions International Director Beverly Stebbins. The Award is the third highest Award of Lions International and was presented to Buickerood for his work with the Lions International Extension Project in 2008-09. Buickerood is a former Director of the Dallas Zoo.

80th Anniversary of The Dallas Oak Cliff Lions Club

The Dallas Oak Cliff Lions Club Celebrated the Club's 80th Anniversary and Past President's Day with a Gala Birthday Party April 29, 2009, in Weiss Auditorium of Dallas Methodist Central Hospital. The Club was Organized April 1, 1929, and formally Chartered by Lions Clubs International on April 30, 1929. In its 80 year History, the Oak Cliff Lions Club has donated some $1.4 Million to charitable causes, as well as countless numbers of hours to special causes, from a Club that has had one Lions International Director, six District Governors, five "Texas Lions Hall of Fame" Inductees, and five recipients of the "Ambassador of Good Will Award", highest Award of Lions Clubs International.

President's Award to Oak Cliff Lions Past President Dennis Jeter

Lions Past International President Jimmy Ross, left, presented the Lions International President's Award to Oak Cliff Lions Past President Dennis Jeter at the Club Meeting of March 25, 2009. The Award was presented on behalf of Immediate Past International President Mahendra Amarasuriya for Jeter's long and dedicated Service to Lions International. Through the past 30 years, Jeter has provided Dallas area transportation for five Lions International Presidents with his limousines from Jeter & Son Funeral Home. The Lions International President's Award is the second highest Award of Lions Clubs International and, in the past, has been presented to five other Oak Cliff Lions - PP/PDG Marion Snider, PP Gordon Rea, PDG Sylvan Moritz, PP/PDG Bill Melton and PP/PDG Wayne Meachum.

Volunteer Hero Award

Safeway/Tom Thumb Stores Honored Plano New Millennium Lions Club President Carl Dorman with its "Volunteer Hero Award" at the Club Meeting of March 17, 2009. The Award is for Lion Carl's Lions, church and civic involvements and included a check for $1,000, which Lion Carl and wife PDG Carolyn donated to the Club. PDG Charles Norwood makes the Safeway/Tom Thumb "Volunteer Hero Award" to Lion Carl Dorman. Lion Carl and PDG Carolyn Dorman present the Safeway/Tom Thumb $1,000 check to Plano New Millennium Lions Treasurer Joe Parkinson. In attendance were IPDG Wallace Roberts, PDG Bill Melton, PDG Julia Johnson, PDG Carolyn Dorman and PDG Charles Norwood.

Lions State Convention

The Lions of District 2-X1 should be proud that "one of our own" has been Honored with the Highest Award bestowed by Lions Clubs International! PDG Wayne Meachum received the Lions Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest Award bestowed by Lions Clubs International at the 2008 Lions State Convention in Amarillo on May 18th. As part of the Lions New Club Development Task Force, PDG Meachum has been responsible for forming four New Clubs in Texas this year, as well as Clubs in Indiana, Louisiana, Kentucky, North Carolina and other States. He is also leading the effort for Lions Clubs International to be recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize for its humanitarian efforts around the World. Since 1969, there have been five Ambassador of Good Will Awards presented to Lions in District 2-X1: 1969 - PDG Marion Snider, Oak Cliff (now Park Cities) and Lion Gordon Rea, Oak Cliff; 1983 - PDG Bill Melton, Oak Cliff; 2007 - PCC John Eads, DeSoto; and now PDG Meachum, Oak Cliff.

July 8th Dalls Everest Lions Club was organizing reception program to welcome past district Governor of district 325 A, Lion Hari Shankar Niraula at Pasand restaurant, Irving, TX. District Governor Wallace Roberts, Vice District Governor Alice Conway, past district Governor Frank Pickens II & fellow Lions from District 2X1 were also present on the program. Coppell Lions Club's District 2X-1 Speech Contest

Coppell Lions Club hosted the Lion District 2X-1 Speech Contest at First United Methodist Church in Coppell. The winners of the contest will go on to compete at the district convention. 1st Place winner will be awarded a $1000 scholarship. 2nd Place--$500; 3rd Place--$250. The contest this year was coordinated by Coppell Lion Bill Smothermon. High School students from across the district, including Dallas, Plano, Grand Prairie, Ennis, Crandall and Kaufman, among other communities. The three top winners were: Neha Satyanarayana- Plano East High School, Kimberly Herod- Crandall High School’ and Bonnie Newman- Irving Nimitz High School. They are pictured here with District Lion dignitaries: District Governor Carolyn Dorman, Vice District Governor Wallace Roberts, Lion Barry Dodson and Lion Bill Smothermon.
