Our Founding Father Franklin Oliver, was born April 18, 1787 in Bordertown, New Jersey and died September 19, 1881. He arrived in 1832 and lived among the Indians in Kickapoo Grove, which later became Oliver's Grove.

Revilo Oliver Note: Revilo is Oliver spelled backwards. The son of Franklin,Sr. was born in Chatsworth and died in Springfield ( not sure of this) He was the Mayor of Chatsworth at one time and later went on to become a composer of songs and poems.

A picture of Catherine Brode from her book "Life in Chatsworth". Catherine Bigham, born on January 30, 1865 near El Paso, was raised in Chatsworth. She graduated from Chatsworth High School. In Chatsworth, in 1893, she married Howard Brode, who she met while attending Illinois State University in Normal. They moved to Wawa, Washigton, later retiring to Santa Monica, Ca. Catherine died on March 14, 1946.
1909 John C. Corbett, business man, grain, lumber and coal dealer, in Chatsworth, and Vice-President of the Commercial National Bank of Chatsworth. and prominent in connection with the public affairs of Chatsworth Township and Livingston County, was born in Tazewell County, 111., March 9, 1865. He was educated in Pontiac schools and after college spent 10 years teaching. Moving to Chatsworth in 1891, in 1900 he took over the Cowen Elevator. He was also V.P. of the Commercial National Bank. He served 2 terms as town mayor and 3 terms as township supevisor. He married Jennie Lawless. Charles L. Froebe Family Charles was born in Germanville, on February 4, 1875, a son of Nicholas and Caroline (Goembel) Froebe, natives of Germany. He received his education in Chatsworth. He devoted his attention successfully to farming on the homestead property of 208 acres, formerly ownedby his father. On March 16, 1899, Mr. Froebe was married to AMda O. Fitch, a native of Columbus, Ohio, daughter of Theodore C. and Mary (Burr-Putnam) Fitch. 1909
Henry Hummel, Germanville, Ill., was born in Kendall County, Ill.,March 13, 1858, a son of Anton and Magdalina (Arnold) Hummel, both natives of Wurtemberg. grew to manhood on the home farm, receiving his education in the district schools. In early life he started out for himself, and has since devoted his attention to farming, in which his label's have been attended by success, he now owning 240 acres of land.On February 7, 1882, Mr. Hummel was first married to Matilda Froebe, a daughter of Nicholas and Carolina (Gimble) Froebe, natives of Kur-Hessen, Germany. Hummel took a second wife in the person of Mary Gerbig, a daughter of Henry and Bertha (Fox) Gerbig, natives of Kur-Hessen, Germany. For several years he has held the office of Supervisor and Road Commissioner, and at the present time is Township Assessor and School Trustee, a Director of the Farmers' National Bank of Strawn, and a Director of the Forrest Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Company. 1909
James H. Kerrins 1909 He was successfully engaged in the grain and coal trade at Chatsworth,Ill., was born in Brenton Township, Ford County, III., eight miles northeast of Chatsworth, October 20, 1864. He is a son of Thomas and Mary (Meehan) Kerrins, natives of County Sligo, Ireland. In the company with his brother, John A., he engaged in the grocery and commission business. Disposing of his interest to his brother eighteen months later, he established himself in the grain trade, starting in 1895, the elevators with which he was then connected being owned by the Rogers Grain Company. On January 1, 1908, he took charge of the Illinois Central Railroad Company elevator. He served three years on the Village Board and held the office of Mayor of Chatsworth in 1898. Fraternally he is affiliated with the Knights of Columbus, being on the local board of managers. He is further identified with the M.W.A., in which he is Banker of the Chatsworth Camp; and also belongs to the K. of P.
J. P. Ryan 1909 He was President of the Commercial National Bank. He was born in Marshall County, Ill., May 21, 1861. His father was William Ryan, a native of Tipperary, Ireland. He was profitably engaged in farming on a large scale for a number of years, and is still the owner of three-quarters of a section of land near Chatsworth. He was manager of a cotton plantation of 1,129 acres in Coahoma County, Miss., in which he has a half interest.Air. Ryan was one of the organizers of the Commercial National Bank, of Chatsworth, of which he has been President since 1902.He is the owner and occupant of a handsome residence in Chatsworth, erected by him in 1907. On February 20, 1889, he was wedded to Emma AI. Pennell.
Peter and Helen Sterrenberg 1909 For many years a prosperous and highly respected merchant of Charlotte, Livingston County. where he was the senior member of the firm of Sterrenberg & Sons, was bom in Germany, September 24, 1838, and was reared and schooled in his native country, remaining there until 1867. Working at his trade as carpenter for the next three years, and then engaging in merchandizing in connection with P. R. Manssen. This partnership lasted twenty years. In Danforth, Ill., March 19, 1877, he was wedded to Helene Smedt, who was born in Germany, March 13, 1850.
James Bergan 1909 Was an extensive landholder, and an honored veteran of the Civil War, now a resident of Chatsworth, Livingston Couuty, was born In Couuty Kilkenny. Ireland, Alay 18, 1842, at the age of eight years was brought by his parents to the United States, landing at Staten Island, N.Y., and three years later accompanied the family to Peoria. He enlisted in the army, joining Company E., Seventy-seventh Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He served under Grant and Logan, took part in the Siege of Vicksburg,and at Johnston's evacuation of Jackson,Miss., hauled down tbe Confederate flag.In June, In 1868, Mr. Bergan located in Livingston County,, and on June 9, 1874, was married to Mary Boyle, a native of Ireland, and daughter of Patrick Boyle. He has served seventeen years as School Director;twelve years as Road Commissioner, and as Township Supervisor until be took up is residence in Chatsworth. He was instrumental in enlarging the County Farm, and in rebuilding the County buildings.
Stephen and Henrietta Hitch 1909 Was born at Wisbeach,Cambridgeshire, England, April 8, 1838. His father was Robert Hitch, a farmer, who together with the mother, Mary (Sharp) Hitch came to El Paso, III. He enlisted at EI Paso, in the Fourth Regiment Illinois Volunteer' Calvary, fighting under Gen. Grierson and other noted cavalry leaders.In 1865 he bought eighty acres on Section 4 Chatsworth Township, and in 1890 forty acres in Charlotte Township.On June 17, 1864, Mr. Hitch was married to Henrietta Hitch, who was born in England. He served seven years as Chairman of the Oliver and Corn Grove Drainage Board; as Township Assessor one year; seven years as President of the Board of Highway Commissioners, and as a member of the Board of Education for six years.
George W. McCabe 1909 The leading banker of Chatsworth and one of the representative business men of Livingston county, is a native of Illinois, born in Brimfield, Peoria county, March 1, 1863. During the year of 1892 he read law with his brother in Peoria, but the following year came to Chatsworth and purchased a lot, upon which he erected a modern fire-proof bank building, In 1897 Mr. McCabe purchased a lot at the corner of Fourth and Hickory streets and erected a modern residence, fitted with all improvements, and one of the handsomest and most convenient houses in Chatsworth. On the 2nd of August. 1900, was incorporated the Commercial National Bank of Chatsworth, with capital stock amounting to twenty-five thousand dollars, of which amount Mr. McCabe took nineteen thousand dollars.
WILLIAM REID CURRAN, 1854-1921. His father, Thomas Smith Curran and mother Margaret Reid Curran with their family, consisting of William Reid Curran, and another son Charles who died in early manhood, moved from their home in Hardin County, Ohio, to a farm in Livingston County, Illinois in 1859 where they lived until 1865 when the family moved to the Village of Chatsworth, Illinois. Here William Reid Curran grew to manhood, and availed himself of the rather limited school facilities which Chatsworth offered at that early period. He studied law under Samuel Fosdick here and taught at a school near Forrest. He became a Tazwell County judge in 1894. He was the son of Thomas, who was our Police Magistrate for many years.
Father of Martha (Stoddard) Livingston. BELA M. STODDARD, an influential, prosperous and leading businessman of Minonk, holds high rank among the substantial and representative citizens of Woodford County. He is a native of the Empire State, born in Chautauqua County, September 10, 1840, being a son of Simeon A., and Nancy M. (Merrill) Stoddard.He afterward settled in Chautauqua County, whence, in 1857, he came to Illinois, and settling in McLean County, bought 160 acres of land in Cropsey Township. Mr. Stoddard remained in Cropsey until 1875, when he removed with his family to Chatsworth, where the death of his wife occurred in 1882.
"The Peanut Man" L.J.Haberkorn came to Chatsworth in 1866 with his parents in a lumber wagon from Panola, Ill. His first store, "The Peanut Corner" was located where the "Corner Hardware" is today. He later located in the center business block. He was leader of the "Haberkorn Coronet Band" . Author of "The History of Chatsworth, Illinois"

J. Lester Haberkorn "Sands of Time"
B.M. Judd He was born Mar. 16, 1858 at Dearborn, Indiana, the son of Orin and Mary Cook Judd. He married Sarah Bonham Hawk at Lawrenceburg, Ind. In Feb. 1883, and they lived at Chatsworth for a few years. Mrs. Judd died in July 1920. In 1924, B.M. Judd married Miss Minnie McJirgan of Granville, Ill., who died in December 1937. Mr. Judd had to retire from his store about 1939, because of failing eyesight. He died at the age of 90 in January 1949. He was a survivor of the Chatsworth Train Wreck.
J. T. BULLARD, lumber merchant ; Chatsworth ; one of the best known business men of Chatsworth ; was born in Bethel, Windsor Co., Vt., July 24. 1828; son of the Rev. Andes T. and Lydia (Lincoln, second cousin of the late President Abraham Lincoln) Bullard ; his father was a Methodist minister in Vermont.
SAMUEL T. FOSDICK, attorney at law, Chatsworth ; was born in New Baltimore, Greene Co., N. Y., Oct. 3, 1818, and is the son of David and Rebecca (Davids) Fosdick . Mr. Fosdick received his principal education at a Quaker school in New York ; in 1858, with his wife, they came West and settled in Livingston Co., Ill., in what is now known as Germantown Tp. ; here he set out in farming, and remained until 1864 ; he then moved to the village of Chatsworth, and has been engaged at the practice of law ; in 1864, he was admitted to practice law by the Supreme Court of Illinois ; in 1876, he was nominated by the Republican party for Senator of the 18th District. Has been married twice ; first wife, Miss Elizabeth Conine of Greene Co., N. Y. ; his second wife, Miss Elizabeth Irwin, of New York City, daughter of Wm. Irwin, by whom they have one daughter. Senator Fosdick's political opinions are strongly Republican, and is a member of the Presbyterian Church.
ROBERT RUMBOLD, insurance and real estate agent, Chatsworth, was born in Hampshire Co., England, July 23, 1831 and is the son of Joseph and Martha Sherman Rumbold of England; Mr Rumbold in 1852 emigrated to America; came West and settled in Kendall Co., Ill.; here he remained about four years engaged in farming; he then came to Livingston Co. in 1856 and settled near Fairbury on a farm and remained there until 1869; then to the place he now lives on Chatsworth Tp. and engaged in farming until 1871; he then engaged in the insurance and real estate business ;has held the office of Justice of the Peace four years. Mr Rumbold is a National Greenbacker in politics. He married in 1859 to Miss Sarah Osmond of England ; have had five children, two deceased; he owns eighty acres of fine improved land.
Owen Murtaugh was a farmer living in Charlotte, until moving to Chatsworth to a house at the corner of Fouth and Hickory (the Haberkorn house). His son William Murtaugh became a priest. James A. Smith, owner and editor of "The Chatsworth Plaindealer. He also built that building on Locust with the Plaindealer name on it in 1888. He went on to be elected to the Illinois House in 1888 and 1890.
In 1874, Clifford Anthony became a partner with Charles E. Anthony, Henry Denhart, Dr. R.B. M. Wilson and Charles A. Wilson in the founding of the bank of Chatsworth at Chatsworth, Illinois of which he was made the general manager. This bank lasted only 3 years and was sold out, moving its loan department to Peoria.
Rev. Eben G. Trask 1811-1887 Born in Jefferson, Maine and being ordained in 1844, Eben moved to Chatsworth in 1854. Here he married his third wife, Sarah Sherwin. He died in Chatsworth in 1887. He was a chaplin of the 4th Illinois Calvary.
George Torrance was editor and publisher of the Palladium newspaper in Chatsworth 1873 - 1874. He was also an attorney later in Chatsworth and became an Illinois State Senator in 1881.
SIXTEENTH DISTRICT. Herbert E. Torrance (Republican), Pontiac; lawyer; member of Committees on Future Amendment of the Constitution, and Phraseology and Style. Was born at Chatsworth, Illinois, on April 4, 1870, and received his education in the public schools of Pontiac and at the Northwestern University. Since 1895 has been actively engaged in the practice of law at Pontiac. Married, January 18, 1897, to Cornelia W. Holtzman, who died November 20, 1919, leaving surviving their two children, Mary Elizabeth and George.
Dr. G. T. Carson Arrived in Chatsworth in 1896, and took over the former doctor's office and practice. In the early 1900's, he opened the Chatsworth Hospital on the second story of the Walter Building (what is now Dohman's Electronics and Marie's Meating Place. He remained there until his death in 1913. Literally he died in his own hospital.
John and Elizabeth (Ruhle) Walter Built a small store in the east business block and had groceries and dry good in 1866. In 1883 He built the brick building on the east end of the center block (Dohman's Electronics) and went into business with his sons. Robert, Traeger, Kenneth Rosenboom The Rosenboom family migrated to Chatsworth in 1892, being one of the earliest families. They originally conducted business in the basement of the Sneyd building. @ 1924 Robert and Henry had built their new building and started "Rosenboom Plumbing and Heating", where "Nussbaum P & H" is today. All of the family were very much involved in the community.
