Day 2. After aborting the BP trip Dave and I headed to White Mountain. It was Open House at the Barcrofy Laboratory. This is an old observatory being used by UCSB.
Middle Pal NOT! White Mtn NOT - Yikes! What a weekend! 8/2-3 2008 Upon developing AMS on my backpack trip to Middle Palisade Peak we aborted the trip and turned around after only 3.5 miles. Coming back down is as hard as going up when you don't feel good! A very disappointing decision after so much preparation. Then after much discussion later that day we decide to do White Mtn on Sunday since the Barcroft Lab was having an open house. Little did we know an adventure was awaiting us at 14,000 ft! About 200 feet before the summit i met Jerry who was not feeling well. A moment later he suffered a seizure and dropped to the ground. I gave him the best medical attention i could think of. Eventually i was assisted by an MD named Dan and an ER nurse Gloria. After an hour or two we got Jerry up walking and began the 5 mile hike back to the trailhead at the Barcroft Lab. Luckily Gloria ran to the lab and begged for a jeep to come out and get Jerry. I got home at 2:30am Monday morning and made it to work by 10am.
