Simhat Torah After the seven days of Sukkot are ended, an extra eighth day - the Simhat Torah (Rejoicing of the Torah) is celebrated. Central to which is dancing in circles (Hakafot), and singing carrying the Sifrei Torah (the Torah Scrolls). Sifrei Torah are handwritten on parchment and are identical, throughout the Jewish world, and throughout the ages, down to the very last letter. Ashkenazi style scrolls are put within a velvet embroidered coats. Sepharadic style scrolls are housed within solid, ornamented round boxes. Hakafot taking place, within the synagogues during the holiday could not be photographed, since according to Jewish religious law, pictures taking, and for that reason even carrying a camera around is forbidden. Luckily, at the evening after this holiday has ended, Hakafot Shniot (a second round of Hakafot) takes place. Now outside and in the open and accompanied by music bands, giving a great chance for photographers.
