Old Tel-Aviv Two sections of old Tel-Aviv: the BAUHAUSE section and the old German Templar neighborhood named SHARONA. Bauhaus architecture developed in Germany in the 1920s. It was concerned with the social aspects of design and with the creation of a new form of social housing for workers. SHARONA: The German Templars were a messianic sect that began to arrive to Ottoman Palestine in 1868 and built town based on German town plans. In WW-I, after the British conquered Palestine from the Ottomans, the Templars were viewed as enemy aliens and deported. They came back after the war. In WW-II, the British again began to expel them ( Germany, Australia etc.). The last of the community was expelled in 1948, just prior to Israeli independence. Templars received restitution for their lost property as part of the post-holocaust agreement between Israel and Germany.
