I could hear a bit of squeaking from the brakes and they "felt" different so I had them checked out before our road trip. Yesterday, I went to an independent shop and got an estimate of over $1000 for new pads and rotors. I went to my GM dealer today and recommended new pads and machined rotors. It cost me only $400. Much better!
