5 Years Around Long Island - Days 2 & 3 The next 2 days of Long Island Year 2. Day 2 - Put in at the Shinnecock Inlet & on out to the Atlantic; our goal for the day was to make it as close to Hither Hills as possible, leaving Hither Hills to Lake Montauk for Day 3. An ailing paddler (who proved to have Lyme disease upon) meant that we actually pulled out at Georgica Beach, and between that and a deteriorating forecast for Day 3, we ended up scouting Montauk Point from the land. Next year will be spectacular - Montauk Point & then the big crossing to Orient Point - but the weather will have to be absolutely perfect (and no more Lyme disease!).
