Christine G "The Scotties Came Too" "My mother is from Scotland as is my father's family so it was a natural choice for me. The centre block is a replica of the 1908 Canadian quarter. I choose to do it in redwork and then added the paper-pieced maple leaves to the border. While I was working on the border it seemed like something was missing and it struck me that I needed to add a scottie dog as I collect them. One wasn't enough so a second one was added. I am proud of my scottish heritage, and enoromusly PROUD TO BE A CANADIAN."
Carol V, "O Canada" machine quilted, original design using liberated quiltmaking techniques, paper pieced maple leaf. "I just wanted to design something I could hang up on Canada Day"
Deb J,”My Great Home, Canada” original design. " I just wanted to show some of the aspects of this great country, outdoors, many points of interest, maple leaves."
Debbie S. "Home Sweet Home" "I grew up on a farm so the farm house represents home. The gold path to the house represents prosperity . I used green for the front door because there is a song that is called "The Green Door" that came out in the late 50's or early 60's that talks about a green door and a party going on behind it. To me parties mean friends and fun. The windows are yellow representing a light in the window meaning all are welcome here. I also decided since this was a challenge I would try something new. I paper pieced the centre block and the maple leaf corner blocks. "
Beth M, "Elderberries Party Animals" pattern by Linda Christensen and Cordie Gray "This pattern was irresistable. The ladies are having so much fun enjoying each others' company. I changed the pattern by adding Canadian flag to suggest they are celebrating Canada Day."
Cynthia M-R "Maple Leaf Wreath Pillow" Pattern source: Sue Steele, design based on a 1908 Canadian quarter. hand applique and embroidered, machine quilted on front "The movement within the pattern with the maple leaves & ribbon caught my attention, the Canadian history of the quarter sold me."
