This is a part of the city/country of Singapore. We stayed here 4 days with a friend of Nicole's. It is an incredibly clean, well-organized and developed city! Did you know that they don't sell gum there in order to keep it clean?! There is also a fine for spitting!
Sherry, Tyler, Daisy, Janelle, and Alvin Tan. Nicole was at her friend, Isobel's youth group.
They ordered some great, local Singaporian food for us at the food court.
Isobel, Janell and Nicole ; )
Nicole and Isobel took a trip to the beach (Singapore is an island). There they rented bikes and swam in the ocean. The Cambodian beaches are nicer though...
New Years Celebrations! (fire works)
Crowded Waterfront at 12:04, January 1, 2008! It was a very festive way to welcome the new year! The crowds were crazy... we didn't get home until 2:00am.
Going to Sentosa Island by cable car. Nice View!
On Sentosa, we also went to the Underwater World. These underwater worm guys were pretty cool.
Believe it or not, this is a fish.
CHeck out those lips would ya!
The shark ate Nicole's arm :O
This is a shark. It was resting on the top of the glass tube that we walked through.
Can you find Nemo??
this is a jellyfish, they were really cool to watch as they swam and floated around.
just keep swimming, just keep swimming.... la lalala la la
turtle eating cabbage
The pink dolphins show! These dolphins are quite rare, only found around Asia, I think, and they get pink as they get older.
Our last night in Singapore we went to the Night Safari. These tribal dancers blew fire from their mouths! it was really cool...
This tiger was sitting right next to the glass window for us to take picture of. Tigers are so beautiful!
Nicole on the otherside of the glass window.
Now to Malaysia! This is in the town of Melacca. We found a windmill, built by the Dutch which reminded us of Grandma Lois at Dutch Haven back in PA!
Nicole and Sherry got a ride in a silly little flower bicycle.
This is a map of where we hiked in the park. First we went on the pick trail which took us to the canopy walk. The light green was a 35 minute boat ride then a 1 hour hike on the red path. Here we spent the night at a hide, which is a house built up high above a clearing so that we could watch for animals. We only saw one deer. The next day we hiked the blue line for about 6.5 hours to a great swimming hole and camped in a picnic pavilion. Tyler and Larry had hammocks. The next day we hiked back to the park office. It was the middle of the rainy season but we only really got rained on the last day.
This is the canapy walk, it is about 100 feet above the ground and about 800 meters long but we were only able to walk on half of it because of repairs. But we think it is good that it gets amintained too. We needed to space 10 meters (more than 30 feet) apart on the walkway.
Hiking in Taman Negara, which is the oldest rainforest in the world! Gigantic trees!
We planned a 2 day trip totally in the forest. First we took a boat upriver to be dropped off near where we would stay. It poured on the way up, and we sorta kept dry by the seat covers or life jackets. Luckily a boat with a roof offered to take our stuff for us!
Aaaahhh! The leeches were crazy mad! They would climb onto ur shoes, into ur socks! Haha... it looks a lot worse, it actually doesn't hurt at all. They put a chemical in ur blood that makes you bleed a lot easier. They dont harm you though.
Wild elephant tracks in the mud!
There are suspected tiger tracks here too, although u cant really see em...
This was a small stream but still up to our thighs
The area still has nomadic tribes called Orang Asli who probably built these houses before moving on
“how do i get through this?!” she sighs...
a friendly little leech on tylers hand... it was surprising that there were so many leeches but barely any mosquitos at all!
Hahah... ew that looks so gross huh?
After a 7 hour hike (which was really really tiring!) we finally got to Lata Berkoh where we swam in the refreshing river. Ah.. at last!
We carried all of our own food. Sherry is trying to warm up the baked beans by candle light. No we couldn't make a fire cuz in the rain forest, everything is wet!
Crossing the river... with our bags held high. The water was above our waists!
These are floating resturants at the river crossing into the park.
Drying our wat clothes at a bus stop on our way to Kuala Lumpur
KL communications tower, 4th tallest communications tower in the world. We went up to the observations tower.
The Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur
The towers in a reflection pool
KL Tower from a distance
Free tours are taken to the bridge; this picture is taken from the bridge, looking at the buildings shadow.
Taken on the Petronas Twin Towers bridge. The bridge is 41 stories high and the building is 88 stories.
Visiting the planetarium, showing the effects of gravity and surroundings. In this room the floor was tilted and Nicole and Tyler are trying to stand straight.
Would you recruit these astronauts?
Don't you think so too?
Tyler and Nicole dilegently studying on the last day. The guesthouse had a nice rooftop with table, chairs and plants. Great for reading and homework!
Flying home!!
Back to Phnom Penh
