Holbrook AZ, 09/13/09, Sunday, ~7a ... The previous evening I told Rodger that his group was invited to stop and come inside my room at the WigWam hotel so they could see what the rooms are like. So, I was up early ... and took these pictures. We've seen these Corvettes before during this trip!

Meteor Crater AZ, 09/13/09, Sunday, 11:40a-12 noon ... JMD, Robert and I stopped at the Meteor Crater, but opted to not go in for the tour. As we drove the road TO the crater itself, Rodger's Ride For The Relay group was headed back the other direction towards returning to Route 66. I flashed my lights ... and when we next met (lunchtime in Flagstaff) found out that some of them had figured out it was me. Link: http://www.meteorcrater.com/

Twin Arrows AZ, 09/13/09, Sunday, 12:25p ... East-bound travelers have the easiest "stop" here; the exit is just west of the building and gigantic twin arrows in the ground. From my observations, this is a cool place ... and I hope someone reopens this. Just a few days later, I was headed back east and looked at this place a little wistfully as I headed for home.

Flagstaff AZ, 09/13/09, Sunday, 1:10p-2:55p ... Robert, JMD and I arrived in Flagstaff WAY ahead of schedule, but that was good. We were able to join Rodger and his group as they were close to finishing lunch. So, we were able to visit with them for a while before they left. We also met Jim Conkle, Route 66 historian and preservationist. In this pic is Rodger (left) and Jim (right).

Bellemont AZ, 09/13/09, Sunday, ~3:10p ... At the exit for the Route 66 Roadhouse, I was disheartened to find that the bridge over I-40 was closed for construction. So, this is the picture I was able to take of the area...from across I-40.
Parks AZ, 09/13/09, Sunday, ~3:30p ... Another "sign shot".
Parks AZ, 09/13/09, Sunday, ~3:30p ... Just moments after taking the sign shot (Pic# 0633), I came to the Parks Store / Union 76 station which immediately made my decision to continue west from Flagstaff today all the worth while. I was able to spend a few minutes to take these pictures for my Dad, who used to work for Union/Unocal 76 when they had accounting offices in Schaumburg IL. Those offices, which once were surrounded by open areas, sports fields, etc., are now mostly gone and replaced with ... shopping areas.

Parks AZ, 09/13/09, Sunday, ~3:40p ... These two pictures turned out to be the last 2 I took today. This building is just west of the Union 76 station. I arrived in Williams AZ (the very last US 66 town bypassed, October 13, 1984), at 4:05p. I intended to take pictures in Williams AZ later in the evening to capture some of the "lights", but I fell asleep during the Chicago Bears/Green Bay Packers game [when I arrived the guy at the motel desk was intently watching the AZ Cardinals game] ... and woke up around 11p, went for a short walk, and went to bed.
