Welcome to Tortola! This was the view from my little deck at the Heritage Inn, which sits about 400 feet straight up from Apple Bay (or Carrot Bay... I can never remember). Anyway, they took really great care of me for my birthday - I will definitely be back!
The hotel overlooked a gorgeous stretch of Tortola's North Shore. It's better for surfing than for swimming, in general, but it was a great location - a short drive both to town and to some truly amazing beaches.
The front room of my suite - as the hotel was pretty much empty (and it was my birthday!) they gave me the honeymoon suite! Translation: best view in the house, sunny patio, and a bed the size of a football picth.
My little kitchen! It was awesome to be able to make my own breakfast and pack up little pic-a-nics for the beach - that way, I could splurge a little on dinner! : )
My breakfast bar! You can see in the background my presents for Tony & Polly - being British, they sorely(!) miss Heinz Baked Beans, which are hard to come by here. (Apparently, American baked beans (the sweet kind) are just all wrong.) Anyway, they were really excited to get their hands on the real deal after going so many months without.
The patio around the corner from my room. Perfect spot to soak up the afternoon sun and the unbelievable views.
I failed to get an actual picture of my car (it was a two-door Chevy tracker, for the curious), but this warning label was my favorite part. ALL manuveurs on island roads are abrupt, and excessive speed here is like 30...
Using the nifty photo-stitch feature on my little point-n-shoot, I managed to get this panorama shot of my view during my first sunset.
There's that same view (not bad, right?) the next morning. On the right is Jost Van Dyke. In the middle, in the distance is St. Thomas. The hills on the left in the foreground are Tortola's West End, and peeking up behind that is home sweet home.
