The local Declarations Office at the Headlands Center for the Arts.
This is the desk of the local Officer of Declarations. The Bureau of Personal Belongings oversees all Declaration offices around the world. The B.P.B. is a branch of the Department of Declarations.
As the Declarations Officer, I facilitated the assessment of 'personal belongings' throughout the open house at the Headlands Center for the Arts.
One of my duties was keeping a 'record of events' throughout the assessment. I documented conversations, interactions, comments and other events that took place in the space during the event.
As visitors entered the studio, I handed each person a clipboard with an official letter explaining The Declaration Project and a declaration card.
Visitors either took a seat or walked around the studio looking at my own 'personal belongings' as they reflected on their own.
(excerpts from three participants' cards)
Each 4"x 8" card has a number stamped in the upper right corner. To the left is the official letter from the Department of Declarations.
As visitors finished their assessment, I signed, stamped and embossed each card.
The embossing stamp was definitely the favorite tool.
The stamp reads: Department of Declarations, Est. 2007, Decl. Officer, Stacey L. Kirby, DECLARE
Many visitors emptied their bags, pockets, wallets and brains in search of their 'personal belongings' for the assessment.
Each visitor was asked to file their card under their last name in the Declarations Archive.
I invited all participants to search through the archive for entries that interested them. Discoveries were made concerning similar handwriting, odd collections, friends' habits and intimate thoughts.
