Chrismas day concert.

A walk in the forest.

As a child my Parents would walk this woodland with my Sister and I and our German Shepherd, as I grew older it became an adventure playground and a place to explore. Growing older it became the ideal place to walk with a young lady on a sunny Sunday afternoon, so this place holds a great deal of memories for me. Unfortunatly the great storm of 1987 swept away many of the grand old trees and changed the woodland as I knew and loved it. However the forest is resiiiant and new growth is well underway just as it did after the fire in the 1950s. This was my first visit for almost 30 years, it was pleasing to see that this woodland is still being used as it was in my childhood by families and children.

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal

The whole complex is a U.N.E.S.C.O. world heritige site covering 850 acres (approx 2sq kilometers) a full days visit is necessary to fully enjoy and take in some of the history this place offers. Unfortunatly I was not aware of this nessesity as a result there are many photos that went untaken and areas I had no time to visit.

Batemans the Sussex home of Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling author of many famous books and poet. I have great admeration for the man and his work he stood up for what he believed, others may disagree with his ideals. He lost his only son during WW1 he was just 18, he died 6 days after his birthday sadly. It was a very pleasurable afternoon photographing his house and gardens and hope it brings some insight into his life.

No photographs can do the sheer beauty of this place justice, it is gardening on an epic scale 240 acres and over 9 miles of pathways with every turn offering a new photo opportunity. The heavy scent of the Azalias when the air is still can be overpowering, its a great shame the new owner is closeing it to the public, one can only hope sense prevails and they open them during May and June if only for a few days.
