Edutopia HS Geometry: A Close Examination of a One Dollar Bill (Part One)

This brief series of photographs were taken with my Bausch & Lomb handheld "Pocket 5x Magnifier". They are quite revealing of some of the various parts of the U.S. Dollar Bill Design (front and back) and the Extraordinary Expert Engraving Craftsmanship that was and is used to help safeguard the security of Printing Goverment Paper Money, to discourage counterfeit reproduction. (There is a lot of blurriness in the photos due to the amateur procedure I used, but there are clear sections as well that reveal stunning details.)

Edutopia HS Geometry: Tetrahedron Origami Model

This is NOT a simple project to make "as shown", because the Folding MUST be exact! Geometrically. And the Joinery: making/sliding the Paper Scuplture Joints together takes Very Care-Full Manipulation ot the paper! There are much easier ways to make a Paper Tetrahedron, which I can demonstrate further... Origami is Paper Engineering! Not just paper play...although there are many simpler patterns and scupltures to make, that are fun and less 'demanding'... This one is for Experts who want to challenge their skills and development... and I would be happy to help you make this model: it just requires very careful attention to details and procedures. If you want to make something Profound in Paper, just let me know... or follow the website link and surprise me... :-)

Edutopia HS Geometry: Paper Circus Series

Everything you need is included here... but this is no simple project to make, Dudes and Dudettes... It's just that I picked one of the most fun projects to make from the book... it took about a month... of careful papercutting fun...and then I drew the characters myself and colored them...that was pure magic :-) Also this "slideshow" video is waiting for some cool music to make it into a youtube video star celebrity... Anybody feeling "circus"y: hip-hop, jazz, different countries, digital-synthesizer electronix, Cirque du Soleil, etc....

1. Construction with 5 pieces of 3"x3" small mirror tiles and Loctite super glue gel, then epoxy putty cement. 2. Placement of small nature objects and then various mundane found objects, to photograph the kaleidoscopic magical images and worlds created inside the box.

Edutopia HS Geometry: Kirigami Blue-Orange-Card Series

I made this second card as a gift in June 2010. It is the same card design as the previous Beach Pop-up Card (Copying the original by Laura Badalucco in her wonderful book "Kirigami -- the Art of 3-Dimensional Paper Cutting" ISBN 0-8069-4490-0) Except that this card has the addition of blue and orange construction paper... ...and the magic here is all about lighting... I would propose that we make this at a much larger scale, using cardboard etc. to create a puppet-size theater set and/or share this design with your Theater Arts Teachers, etc.

Edutopia HS Geometry: Cardboard Box Construction

I made this box using simple corrugated cardboard and joined the pieces with super glue gel. It is my current desktop letters and papers holder...very useful and convenient. Easy to make, if you are interested in paper-crafting... It is like doing carpentry, but using cardboard instead of wood.
